Ever since puberty first hit me, both the Summer and Winter have left me fighting for my life when it comes to keeping my skin and my hair healthy and manageable. It shouldn’t come as any surprise (it doesn’t for me, anyway!) since those two seasons are historically the most extreme and unpredictable here in New England – where I was born and raised!
But with years and some age behind me, it also brings wisdom – specifically when it comes to preparing myself for days of unbearable humidity and heat, torrential downpours and thunderstorms or, on the flip side of that coin – days of snow, space heaters, minimal sunlight and sub-zero temperatures.
But today we’re going to be talking about the former and taking a look at my Summer 2024 skin & hair care collection! I’ve put together the products (other than the tons of sunscreen I apply daily) that have been keeping me glowing and hydrated these past couple of months – even when we’re in the midst of a heat wave or another tornado watch/warning.
Before I get into this season’s all-stars, here are some of my previous installments of these posts!
I’m going to get these links organized by the end of this year – promise!
2023: [ WINTER ] [ SPRING ] [ SUMMER ] [ FALL ]
2022: [ WINTER ] [ SPRING ] [ SUMMER ] [ FALL ]
2021: [ WINTER ] [ SPRING ] [ SUMMER ] [ FALL ]

For my Summer skin care, I only had two rules other than the mandatory “always wash your makeup off at night” and “always apply high SPF sunscreen on any visible skin throughout the day” (although sometimes I admittedly miss a spot or two and end up bright red.) Those steps are:
- Use a gentle, cream-based exfoliator every other day, and;
- Moisturize like your life depends on it.
I’m a big and longtime fan of this gentle facial scrub from Neutrogena, which is a convincing dupe for Clinique’s famous ‘7 Day Scrub’, since it gently buffs away excess oil and dirt, and smooths my skin without being too abrasive.
And for daytime and nighttime skin repair and hydration, I turn to trusted brands like First Aid Beauty and Goldfaden, MD.
- Daily Facial Scrub: Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub [ $6.49 – MORE INFO ]
- Daytime Moisturizer w/SPF: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Moisturizer [ $32 – MORE INFO ]
- Nighttime Repair Cream: Goldfaden MD “Wake Up Call” Overnight Moisturizer [ $88 – MORE INFO ]

Similarly, my hair care routine this season has been all about hydration, hydration, hydration. The heat and humidity can be downright treacherous to my curls, making them dry, frizzy and unruly – and the last thing I want to be when it’s already insanely hot out is uncomfortable as I try to get them under control.
So this Summer, I’ve been focusing on nourishing shampoos, rich masks as a twice-a-week treatment, and in-shower scalp serums to reduce flyaway strands and keep my hair shiny and healthy from root to tip no matter how scorching it is outside.
- Hydrating Shampoo: Current Moisture/Color-Safe Shampoo [ $18 – MORE INFO ]
- In-Shower Frizz Serum: amika “Smooth Over” Serum [ $32 – MORE INFO ]
- Hair Repair Mask: Rose + Quartz Muse Mask [ $9 – MORE INFO ]
And that does it for another seasonal round-up of some of my favorite products I’ve been using religiously this time of year! It’s a solid collection of both high-end and budget-friendly finds that have been giving me great results so far.
As always, if you have any recommendations for products you think I should check out (and maybe include in my Fall assortment!) feel free to reach out or drop me a line!
