My Summer Makeup Routine!

Another season in full-swing means another chance to share what I’ve been wearing on my face as of late! That’s right, it’s time for another peek into my cosmetics bag for an updated listing of the makeup that has been making my Summer selfies and group beach photos look especially tanned and toned these past few weeks!

New England heat and humidity means I am all about quick and comfortable when it comes to my everyday look. This season, I’ve turned to lightweight foundations, easy-to-blend cream bronzers and eye shadows, and hydrating lipsticks that offer fun and bright pops of color with just a couple of mess-free swipes. I’m a girl on the go right now and I do not have time for excessive contouring or highlighting- especially since I’m kind of a sweaty mess by the time I get home at night, anyway!

All of these products have kept me looking fresh-faced and pool party-ready, and I’ll be sharing some swatches at the end of the post!

And if you’d like to see some past collections:

When it came to choosing a new foundation for the Summer season (since I was running pretty low on my previous formula!) I turned to a brand I’ve had a longtime love affair with and gave the ‘Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation’ from Rare Beauty a try. Although the packaging and online description notes this formula provides medium coverage- it’s such a lightweight consistency and so easy to blend that just a couple of drops gives me a natural-looking and flawless finish without caking up or sucking any moisture from my skin.

This applies like a tinted moisturizer- but it doesn’t clog pores, cause excess oil to develop or change color as the day goes on. And available in 48 shades, finding the perfect match is so easy!

Oh hello, bronzer! We meet again- and although I’ve absolutely loved tanning up my face, neck and shoulders with powder formulas in the past, this year I’ve been utilizing easy-to-blend, non-orangey cream formulas that give me a boost of hydration and shaping around my cheekbones, nose and forehead.

This formula from LES Beauty (in the shade ‘Skyscraper’) has been my favorite this season. It’s not sticky, doesn’t pill or crease, and doesn’t leave any sort of oily/greasy residue or finish on my face. I tap this along the areas where the sun would naturally tan me with a Beauty Blender every morning and I’m left with a beautiful sun-kissed glow all day long.

A little goes a long way with these compacts, which are only $18.

Onward to eyes! While I’ve been known to wear particularly bright shadows and liners during the Summertime, this year I’ve been leaning more towards more neutral, bronze-based shades throughout the day. Be it for days at my office or on the beach- I feel like sandy tones and glittery golds make my eyes pop a bit more. This quad from IL MAKIAGE has been a dream with their buttery soft metallic and matte shades which are so flattering and long-lasting. This quad specifically is the ‘Call The Shots’ foursome.

And at $48, this one is a bit pricier than shadows I’ve used in the past, but the formula and packaging is high quality and worth the splurge!

I’ve also been loving quick-swipe shadow sticks this season, since they are by far the easiest thing to apply/touch-up and can stay in place for hours on end without creasing, caking or fading! This Long-Wearing Shadow Stick by Bobbi Brown (in the shade ‘Incandescent’) is a powerfully pigmented cream formula with a very pretty gold/pink metallic finish. It’s my go-to when I’m in a hurry or simply don’t have the energy or patience to do a full eye look- and it looks great every single time!

And I’ve heard how budge-proof KVD Cosmetics eyeliners are for a long time now, but haven’t actually tried them for myself since I didn’t feel comfortable supporting their previous and controversial founder/owner. However, now that they’re under new management and the products have remained the same in terms of quality and color range- I thought I’d give them a shot for the Summer.

I have been obsessed with their Tattoo Pencil Liner Waterproof Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner (specifically in the shade ‘Axinite Brown’, a beautiful rich chocolate color!) since it legitimately does not budge or smudge after application. And no sharpener is needed since these pencils are twist-ups!

And finally, the lips! While I am mainly using balms and oils this time of year to counteract the sun and salt water at the beach- I like to have a burst of fun color every so often, too! This Summer I’ve been head over heels with this ‘Too Femme Heart Core Lipstick’ from Too Faced.

A combination of a gloss, lipstick and moisturizing treatment- this formula gives my lips shine and softness while coating them in a really pretty pink hue that sinks into my pout and lasts for hours- perfect for the season!

And with that breakdown of my new products (not including things like primer, concealer and setting powders/sprays from previous installments that I’m still actively using) here’s some swatches for those who may be curious about finishes and pigmentation!

And there you have it- a look into what’s on my face (without actually posting my face on here!) for the 2023 Summer Season. I’ll be back in a few months with my lineup of Fall products, which is always over-the-top- but for now I’m enjoying the ease and simple glow and glamour these products have been giving me these past few weeks!
