My Summer Makeup Routine!

It’s about that time of the season where I share what’s in my current makeup rotation- and although there hasn’t been much of an opportunity or many occasions to get glammed up in this ongoing Summer of Quarantine- every once in a while I like to play around with a bright eye look or a super shimmery bronzer to lift my spirits and make perpetual mask-wearing a little more fun.

I don’t like wearing a ton of base makeup in the Summer- if only because the second I step outside it starts melting off of me. I’m usually bare-faced during these months- only using a spot concealer on any imperfections/dark circles or a lightweight BB cream on the days when I feel I need a bit more coverage without clogging my pores or making my skin look blotchy. I’m still sticking to my e.l.f. Cosmetics BB Cream with SPF 20- which I last talked about in my SPRING MAKEUP ROUTINE post- and Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Concealer remains my favorite affordable multi-purpose concealer of all time.

But for my eyes and my cheeks? Well, I decided to go full “Mermaid Mode” this Summer- with fun pops of greens, blues, golds and fuchsias.

Here are the new additions to my makeup routine for Summer 2020! Swatches will be at the end of the post.

NARS Paradise Found Bronzing Powder: I have to be careful with bronzers. Given how pale I am, the wrong shade can take me from pasty to orange REAL quick- so I try to find something that has a bit of a sheen to it so that I can contour, bronze and highlight all at once.

This limited edition bronzing powder from NARS, with a shimmery gold finish- is the perfect shade for my fair complexion this season. It’s universally flattering and easy to blend- even on days when I’m not wearing a base underneath it.

And the compact it comes in is so pretty!

Huda Beauty PASTEL Mint Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette: I had originally purchased this palette back in the Spring because it was packed with fun and beautiful blue/green pastels- but I knew right away that it was also going to be absolutely perfect in the Summer given the rich teal, coral and gold tones that practically screamed “Beach Goddess” when I started wearing them on the regular.

This palette has quickly become my favorite for this season- and there are so many fun and unique looking color combinations I can try depending on my mood, what I’m wearing, or how flashy I’m feeling. Sometimes it’s a subtle pop of coral and gold around my brow- and other days it’s a bright, bold aqua across my lids.

I’m in love.

SEPHORA COLLECTION 12hr Colorful Contour Eyeliner in “Peacock Blue”: On days when I’m in more of a rush or am looking for a just a simple swipe of color on my eyes to keep me in true Mermaid-form, I turn to this super pigmented, long-lasting and soft-to-the-touch pencil liner from Sephora.

This blue- which looks more like a rich aqua on my skin tone- is a Summertime favorite I returned to this year after first trying it a couple of years ago, getting hooked on it, and then fell into despair when the shade was consistently sold out every time I was looking to buy a replacement after I’d run out.

But it was back in stock this year- and I didn’t hesitate to snatch up a couple before they disappeared again!

Milk Makeup’s KUSH High Volume Mascara: No matter how many mascaras I try or turn to, I always come back to this conditioning and extremely volumizing vegan formula from Milk Makeup. Plant-derived and infused with CBD oil- this is one of the only mascaras I’ve regularly used that actually improved the look and feel of my lashes over time.

It doesn’t flake, or smudge, or clump up. A couple of quick swipes and my eyes look brighter and bigger for hours. This is definitely one of my Top 5 Mascaras to use of all time, I think.

Victoria’s Secret Flavor Gloss in “Punchy”: Given that I’m wearing a mask most of the time when I’m out and about- I haven’t really seen a need for lip color these days since no one can see my mouth. I’ve been keeping it simple with balms and clear glosses- but when I’d like a hint of fuchsia color (and Hawaiian Punch flavor) on my pout- I use this $6 super shiny gloss from Victoria’s Secret.

It’s a favorite find of mine. The gloss isn’t sticky at all and it lasts longer than I expected it would (when I’m not constantly licking it off, of course. It really does taste good!)

And of course- here’s some swatches!

As much as I love the Fall, I think the Summertime is my favorite season for makeup. I live for the bright colors and effortless, heat-and-sun-friendly products. The more lightweight and simple, the better- especially since I’m always on-the-go this time of year.

You can catch peeks of me sporting some of the makeup above in various selfies on MY INSTAGRAM– and then next month I’ll be diving into my current skincare & hair care routine that has been saving my complexion and my curls through all the heat, humidity and impromptu post-workday swimming sessions I’ve been having these days!
