If I had to summarize May of 2023 with just a couple of words, they’d definitely be “extended vacation.” This month has been all about cross-country travel, live music and festivals, great food, and time with some of my dearest friends and loved ones- a trend I’m hoping will continue into June, as well!
But as we wind down these final hours of the month, I wanted to give it a proper summary and send-off considering it was so close to being perfect from start to finish. I had started May local and low-key, with stops at food trucks and my favorite bar a couple of towns away before I went hunting for the perfect Mother’s Day present at some small, mom-and-pop-style shops closer to my hometown.
With a trip to Southern California approaching in mid-May, I took time in-between preparing and packing to celebrate Cinco de Mayo accordingly and share my Springtime skin/hair care collection before it had to go into my carry-on bag.
And then it was off to San Diego for a long weekend to visit longtime friends, lazy days at the beach and the park- and a stop at one of my favorite local eateries before I caught an overnight flight home to get back to work on the East Coast. While I was in California, however- I also celebrated a ‘Coffee & Chiffon’ milestone by marking my 500th post! It seemed like the perfect place to commemorate years’ worth of writing given how San Diego has been like a second home to me.
Once I was back in New England, I enjoyed a Girls Only weekend with some of my family and a spontaneous night of live music via Hozier when he and his band came through Boston near the end of the month. This, of course, served as a preview of the live music to come- since this past Memorial Day weekend was also Boston Calling!
I had gone on Friday to catch up with friends in the media area, see sets from The National and Foo Fighters (among others!) and enjoy some of my favorite local vendor offerings- but by the end of Friday night I was running a fever and fighting off chills- having come down with one hell of a sinus infection and a touch of sun poisoning despite being very generous with my sunscreen application and drinking plenty of water.
It was enough to knock me off of my feet for a couple of days- and I bowed out of the rest of the weekend’s festivities as a result as to not worsen my condition.
And now, after a 48-hour getaway to Maine before returning to work this week- I’m almost back to normal! I’m recovering a little more each day, and the pressure in my nose/ears/head is significantly improved. I’m hopeful I’ll be back to 90% (if not more) by this coming weekend- and I’ll be sharing all of my beach/coastal photos here on the blog before then!
So what’s up my sleeve for June? I’m aiming to travel to a few more seaside communities around New England before we reach the height of Summertime crowds (i.e.- The Fourth of July) and check-in on my 2023 Resolutions since we’re nearly halfway done with this year- if you can believe it!
I’ll also have the details about my upcoming, Summer-themed giveaway within the next couple of days- and I’m so excited to share it!
So here’s to May- a month of exciting, unexpected adventures, a little romance here and there, and a lot of fun …
And here’s to June being just as lovely, wild and spontaneous!
