A Month to Remember: May 2021

Happy Memorial Day and First (Unofficial) Day of Summer, everyone! Although I’m still a little jetlagged and the weather here in New England has been anything but Summery since my return home over this past weekend- I’m in good spirits and looking forward to the coming weeks ahead where I have a few beach days, coastal trips and some much-needed pampering planned throughout June!

But before I dive into a new season (and the ocean too, in good time)– I wanted to tip my wide-brimmed woven hat to May of 2021- a month that was filled with fun day trips around my community, amazing food/dining experiences, finally reaching fully-vaccinated status and a last-minute adventure in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I had kicked off May with a long overdue visit to the recently reopened Montague Bookmill to escape a late-Springtime rainstorm and pick up a gift for my mom for Mother’s Day. I’d also spent a sunny and warm weekend at the beginning of the month grabbing food at various locations with my friend and neighbor, Dan, as we drove around the Pioneer Valley to take photos and enjoy a legitimate day off from our respective jobs and responsibilities.

By the middle of the month, I had received my second Pfizer dose and (thankfully!) didn’t have any significant side effects/symptoms. Now 100% vaccinated- I’ve been feeling a lot more optimistic and energetic as opposed to this time last year when I felt, like many people did- pretty helpless and lethargic at times. More and more of my friends and family are getting their vaccines in the coming weeks- which makes me even more excited because I cannot wait to see them in person again.

I made an early trip to the beach when I got a little too eager for the Summer to begin, where I stopped at one of my favorite seaside cafés/bars– and I shared my Springtime skincare and hair care routine that has been getting me through the hot-then-cold-then-hot-again New England weather we typically see this time of year.

I also shared my carry-on essentials prior to my trip out West- which is where I wrapped up the tail end of May. I only just got back from a week spent in Vegas (a full recap- with some photos- is coming a little later on this week) where I had stayed with Kelsey’s family and did a little baby-sitting for the kids while Andrew began working the assigned shift at his new job. Although my childcare skills were a little rusty- I don’t have kids of my own and haven’t baby-sat in a long time, after all- the kids were fed, clean, entertained and did not sustain any significant injuries (they fall off of things all the time, though)– so I’d say it was a success.

They definitely kept me busy and I was absolutely exhausted at occasional times- but it was a lot of fun. I adore them and I can’t wait to see them again.

I also took the opportunity to check out some Vegas real estate while I was in town, and visited one of my favorite restaurants– so overall the trip was a really great- and productive!- time.

And now, here I am- preparing for a quick trip to New Hampshire this afternoon for some seafood and mapping out the early days of Summer. Naturally, I’ll have some recipes and OOTDs (Outfit of The Day) to share like I always do- but I’m looking forward to weekends at the cape and a return to Newport, Rhode Island, days out on the ocean- and the first mani/pedi of the season- which will also the first in well over a year!

So here’s to May, a month that was busy for sure and full of milestones and memories- and to June being wonderful for all of us!
