Despite how short it actually is- February is one of those months that just feels like it takes an eternity to get through- especially here in Massachusetts. As expected, this was the month that Winter was determined to have one last “hurrah!” at our expense and made it a point to drop as much heavy, nearly-impossible-to-shovel snow as possible before it’s eventually edged out by Spring in the coming weeks ahead.
And although the first signs of Spring are already here- the days feel a little brighter for a little longer and we’ve had a few warmer than expected afternoons in recent days- it is still Winter and I have a sneaking suspicion that we’re going to have at least one more Nor’easter lined up before we can breathe a sigh of relief again until the Fall rolls back around.
But I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself here. As excited as I am for Spring and some of the adventures/activities I have lined up for it- I have to pay my respects to February of 2021.
I knew well before this month started that it was going to be a difficult one for me. This month marked a year since my best friend passed away, since another friend moved across the country- and since the pandemic essentially started here. All of those anniversaries- none of them a good or positive thing- absolutely took a toll on me, my emotional and mental well-being. As I write this- I have to admit I’m quite exhausted and in need of a little rest and relaxation ASAP.
I digress- I was prepared to treat myself as much as possible throughout February- being my own Valentine, so to speak- and that included delicious dinners on my own, indulging in some retail therapy– and stocking up on yummy-smelling body care that would leave me feeling refreshed (and smelling tasty.)
I shared my usual recipes throughout the month, as well as some of my end-of-the-season closet classics- but I also got to talk beauty when I shared my updated Winter skin/hair-care regimen for the season and detailed my progress with trying out false eyelashes for the first time in forever– courtesy of one of my favorite brands!
But again- the month is short- and March is just a couple of days away. And with a new month comes the usual question- what do I have planned?
Well, a vacation- for starters! At the end of March- weather and pandemic rules/regulations permitting, of course- I’m hoping to be back in Nevada to spend some time with Kelsey’s family and as far away from snow as possible for a few days. This of course means quarantining for a couple of weeks before I go and again after my arrival back home- but I’m prepared for it. It’s a small price to pay in order to see the kids again.
I’ll also have some more seasonally-inspired recipes and OOTDs (Outfits of The Day) to share as I begin the Spring cleaning process and start putting away my sweaters, boots and scarves again- and I’m hoping to document a few local attractions here in the Pioneer Valley that are especially beautiful when the flowers begin to bloom.
As emotionally and physically taxing as February could be at certain points- and especially on specific days- I made it through and am excited to push forward into warmer weather and lighter jackets!
