One of my favorite beginning-of-the-year traditions is familiarizing myself and my wardrobe/makeup collection with Pantone’s “Color(s) of The Year”- which is usually determined and announced near the end of December- and can sometimes be shades and hues I don’t typically wear or play around with often. I love seeing the inspired collections and collaborations that are developed by different brands to help inject the shade into our daily ensembles and routines- and reading about what inspired Pantone to pick the color that they did.
After 2021 saw us all embracing duo colors throughout the year, it looks like they returned to one singular shade for 2022- selecting 17-3938- Very Peri.
“Displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives. Rekindling gratitude for some of the qualities that blue represents complemented by a new perspective that resonates today, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri places the future ahead in a new light.
We are living in transformative times. PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through. As we emerge from an intense period of isolation, our notions and standards are changing, and our physical and digital lives have merged in new ways. Digital design helps us to stretch the limits of reality, opening the door to a dynamic virtual world where we can explore and create new color possibilities. With trends in gaming, the expanding popularity of the metaverse and rising artistic community in the digital space PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri illustrates the fusion of modern life and how color trends in the digital world are being manifested in the physical world and vice versa.
I love all things periwinkle. It’s soft, pretty and reminds me of both Springtime and sunsets here in New England- and it’s also a color I wear fairly often- from my eyeshadow, or nail polish and to this super soft and chunky knit cardigan that has been keeping me warm throughout recent weather and colder days in my office.

And although you can’t see it because of my mittens- my nails are very much painted periwinkle, too- with one of my favorite long-lasting and chip-resistant shades from Olive & June, ‘Bold & Unshaken.’
I have a feeling I’ll be wearing even more ‘Very Peri’ in the Spring and Summer- particularly when it comes to my airy blouses and flowy dresses- but for now I’m loving adding little accents and punches of the color in my Winter ensembles and daily looks.
