Mystery, Intrigue, and Cabin Carving!

With October winding down and Halloween just a few short days away (I still need to stock up on candy!) I’ve been trying to get those final spooky plans and events on the calendar before it’s time to shift gears into Thanksgiving-Mode and preparing for the holiday season. We’re entering the final stretch of 2026, if you can believe it!

So this past Saturday, I grabbed my sparkly flapper dress, managed to get all of my curls into a short blonde wig, and made a pineapple upside down cake just in time to attend my friend Alyssa’s 1920s-themed Murder Mystery potluck dinner at her home. I had been told in advance that I’d be playing the character of Goldie, a down-on-her-luck dancer who was looking for a rich husband and revenge against the bootlegging mob leader who’d scammed my family (and who conveniently ended up being the murder victim.)

Alyssa had decorated her house beautifully, and everyone looked absolutely amazing. We drank, danced to jazz records she’d curated to soundtrack our evening, and spent the night fighting for our lives trying to prove our innocence with a series of scenarios and questions. We’d all randomly selected a piece of paper out of a hat upon our arrival that we had to keep hidden that let us know if we were the killer or not. While I wasn’t – quite a few people thought I’d done it.

It ended up being Alyssa all along, and it was so fun trying to guess!

I’m so lucky and so grateful to have such a great group of friends who aren’t afraid to be silly and spontaneous, and who love getting into themed events as much as I do. We’re already looking to get another mystery dinner on the books soon!

And then yesterday, I headed up to Vermont to visit Sean as he prepares to winterize his cabin for the colder months and carve some pumpkins with him and our friend George (and George’s dog, Piper!) It was such a beautiful, sunny, and crisp day – and I’ll never get over the spectacular views Sean has of the surrounding trees and hills. It’s so peaceful there.

We had lunch and managed to complete our pumpkins before the sun started to set. Although mine came out kind of dreadful – I’m still proudly displaying it on my porch this coming Saturday!

A little later on this week I’m going to be sharing some of my favorite buys/finds from this past month before it’s time to summarize October in it’s entirety and get ready for a week off at the beginning of November to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and have some time to relax before things get very, VERY busy!

See you all then!
