Today marks my last day of my week-long “September Staycation” before I’m scheduled to return to work as normal next Monday morning, and I’m just thankful that the impending Nor’easter – heavy rain instead of endless snow this time! – isn’t set to reach my neck of the woods until tomorrow. It gives me a chance to do some final Autumnal activities before I have to take some cover, or at the very least find a sturdy umbrella somewhere in my apartment.
I’ve been sharing my adventures throughout the week, which I’d dedicated to some much needed relaxation and recharging, completing some errands and to-dos I wanted to make sure I was giving proper time and attention to, and enjoying some of those aforementioned early Fall days as much as possible and without having to navigate through weekend crowds.
This past Wednesday night saw me thrilled to be within a crowd, however, as I headed to Roadrunner in Boston to catch a gig from Brandon Flowers – who is presently touring for his third solo album, ‘THRASHER’, which saw him dip into the country/Americana genre. I’ve been loving it, and was excited to hear some of my favorites live while catching up with one of my dearest longtime friends on the touring crew while they were in town.
When Troy was able to finish work early and join me, the festivities were extended and included dinner and a Connect Four competition next door to the venue at Broken Records Beer Hall, who were also hosting music trivia that night.
The show itself was fantastic, and I really loved that Brandon snuck in a couple of Killers tracks into the setlist as well as some of his previous solo work from his first two albums, ‘Flamingo’ and ‘The Desired Effect’. Hearing those live was especially poignant for me since the last time I’d been to one of his solo shows and heard tracks like ‘Only The Young’ or ‘Crossfire’ live had been while I was dancing next to Kelsey in Las Vegas so many years ago.
It was such a great night spent in great company and with a REALLY great soundtrack. I’m so grateful.
I’m going to be back next Monday with a look at some of my favorite things from September before it’s time to wrap up the month and dive headfirst into spooky season! I know I can’t wait!
