This Way to Rockport…

I had wanted to share the full recap of my recent day trip to Rockport a little earlier this week, but got so caught up with work obligations, spending time with family who had been visiting from out of town, and planning for an impromptu long weekend that kicks off within the next few hours that I had to (briefly) put it on the back burner until I could sit down in front of my computer again and go through all of my photos properly.

But my goodness, I’m still buzzing from such a great, sun-filled day – and I’ve got the tan lines to prove it!

I’d arrived in Rockport in the early morning hours on Sunday and managed to miraculously find street parking despite the throngs of people who’d had the same idea in order to find their perfect spot on the nearby beaches. I, however, had a different game plan in mind since I intended to spend the day on Bearskin Neck, instead. This historic and narrow peninsula is lined with shops, restaurants, galleries and lodging, and offers beautiful views of the ocean, the nearby Yacht Club, and the famous Motif Number 1 fishing shack – which was rebuilt following damages to the original structure during the Blizzard of 1978.

I had made shopping stops at Wicked Peacock, which I’d written about earlier this week, The Rockport Candle Company, Shell RKPT (where I picked up the cutest notepads!) and the Bearskin Neck Country Store – and browsed so many other locations as I made my way down one side of the peninsula and up the other – but I’d also stopped by some of the local artist galleries like Lobster Claw Creations, The Old Salt Studio, and The White Seagull Gallery.

The amount of beautifully handcrafted and affordable pieces of art, jewelry, glassware and home dΓ©cor was such a treat, and many of the artists are painting/sculpting within their spaces, so you can watch them create in real time as you browse!

When I needed to get out of the sun – albeit temporarily – and either rehydrate or eat something, I grabbed a lobster roll and stuffed clam at the Roy Moore Lobster Company (which came highly recommended by pretty much everyone I interacted with – and for good reason!) and got my daily sweet tweet courtesy of The Ice Cream Store with a peanut butter truffle waffle cone. The shop is apparently one of the most photographed locations in the area, other than Motif Number 1, and it was cute to see so many families and kids posing for photos outside as they commemorated their own trips.

Everyone I met, from locals, other visitors, artists and vendors, were so kind and eager to point me in the direction of other places they thought I should check out while I was in the area (and in some of the surrounding towns!) It was such a beautiful day spent in such a beautiful, quaint little part of town. A true “Coastal New England” experience.

I’m really looking forward to heading back again before the end of the Summer, since I didn’t have enough time to check out a couple of shops/galleries that were a little more off the beaten path but had come highly recommended. I’m sure I’ll snap plenty of photos when I do!

Next week, I’ll have another cookout-inspired recipe to share, a look back at the travel I have planned in the next couple of days and – schedule permitting – maybe another glance into my Summer wardrobe.

Until then, enjoy your weekend, everyone! Don’t forget your sunscreen!
