With another Summer now upon us, it’s time to share yet another one of my favorite waterfront destinations to enjoy freshly caught lobster meat cooked to perfection and soaked with the perfect amount of butter – and still under $30 – which is a bargain given that the price of pretty much everything else has continued to skyrocket this year!
And this location takes us back to the quaint and picturesque Guilford, Connecticut – a town I’d love to do another “An Afternoon In” series similar to the one I had done in Chester, Connecticut back in 2024. There’s so many things to see and do in the area, though, that I might extend that adventure for a weekend instead of just one afternoon – but I’ll cross that bridge when I eventually get to it!
The place I’m talking about today, of course, is the Guilford Lobster Pound, which is a family owned and operated business that has been around since 2007, although their story and their dream began well before that. With take-out options and an outdoor dining area that overlooks the nearby marina and water, this adorable little shack serves up a variety of lobster dishes (including lobster grilled cheese!), chowders/bisques, hot dogs and gelato – all made fresh and all fairly priced.
I brought my mom and Oliver this past Sunday to celebrate Father’s Day and welcome in the first official day of Summer properly since it was sunny and breezy outside. We opted to take our lobster rolls to go since the outdoor dining deck was pretty busy – but they were stuffed with lobster meat and served warm and buttery just the same! The staff were super friendly and fast, they had fun and chill music playing over the speakers to set the mood/vibe, and I could have easily spent more time there if we weren’t also heading over to the nearby beach that afternoon!
I will definitely be back to pick up a lobster grilled cheese before the end of the season – and maybe some clam chowder, too – although I might save that for a rainier, chillier day!
See you all again on Friday!
