Local Loves: Kelp

If there’s one thing I love just as much as trying out popular and beloved local eateries when I’m traveling outside of Massachusetts, it’s checking out small and independently owned shops to browse locally-sourced goods and hand-crafted items. That’s why whenever I visit Old Orchard Beach in Maine – like I did this past Memorial Day Weekend – I like to pop into Kelp, right down the street from the famous pier, to see what’s new.

Filled to the brim with cute clothing, accessories, home dΓ©cor, hair and skin products, gifts and jewelry – Kelp effortlessly combines the two aesthetics I love most in my life (especially in the Summertime!) – the more preppy, buttoned up New England Coastal charm and the more free-spirted, beach-obsessed surfer vibes that remind me of days spent on the water whenever I spend time in Southern California. It’s two very different and very unique things to balance out in one store – but Kelp does it perfectly! Everything is so carefully and lovingly curated and displayed, that it never feels untidy or thrown together.

They also have a very cool charm bar in the back of the store, dubbed “The Cove” where you can build your own charm bracelets, necklaces, etc. You can reserve a spot for you and your friends if you want to make an event out of it (which sounds so cute!) by simply heading over to Kelp’s website.

The staff is really friendly and helpful, and I so appreciate their assistance as I grabbed a couple of cute tops during my last visit and some gifts for both my mom and my cousin the next time I see her for a day out. There’s just such a great selection of things that I could have spent an entire afternoon going from corner to corner and back again.

I’m hoping to get back to Kelp soon for some more shopping since I’m putting together the next round of gift bags for my girlfriends as we’ve started planning our annual Girls Trip away for later on in the season. I love surprising them – and I know I’ll find everything I need there!

Have a great weekend, everyone! See you all again next week when I check in from North Carolina!
