Hello from North Carolina, everyone! I’m in town for the next few days after arriving this past Saturday afternoon to help out with childcare for my two favorite little bursts of energy, creativity and curiosity – and what a fun-filled weekend we had together! While they’re in school and I’m working remotely from the house right now, I’m sitting here counting down the hours until they get home and I can hear all about their classes and their friends and we can get right back into coloring pictures, playing with Legos, and/or getting overly competitive playing Wii Sports together.
We’ve spent time at the playground, at the pool, went walking to get ice cream and shared lemonade between us since it’s been so hot and sunny here. My clothes smell like sunscreen, chlorine and Summer – and it’s been pretty perfect – especially when compared to how rainy it’s been back home in recent days!
They’re at such a fun age right now. I know that if their mom were still here with us – she’d be savoring all of these funny little moments that accumulate throughout the day. So, whenever I get to spend time with her family, I try to be as present as I can and capture the moments of joy, triumph and milestones as much as possible. I’ve taken so many precious photos and videos since I arrived in town, and I save every piece of art and every handwritten letter and note given to me or slid under my door in the mornings.
And the kids are at the age where they say things with such honesty and sincerity. Having them tell me they love when I spend time with them, they wish I could move into a house next door (and bringing me to one of the open home models in their neighborhood to check out while on a walk!) they want to visit Massachusetts and see the places I talk about, meet my dog, etc., fills my heart with such joy and pride. They’ve come so far and have grown so much over the years. It’s been a wonderful thing to witness.
I’m heading home on Thursday afternoon since I have some commitments over the weekend that I’ll need to be available for, but I’m so enjoying my time here and am looking forward to arranging all the arts & crafts and drawings I’ve collected over the past couple of days to display in my apartment once I’m back.
A little later on this week, when I have a moment, I’ll be revisiting some of my resolutions for 2026 to do my annual “Halfway Check-In” now that we’re into June so I can map my progress and see what adjustments need to be made to achieve my goals by the end of the year!
See you then!
