Playing With Pantone…

A new year means diving into and experimenting with the “Color of the Year” as chosen by the minds (and specialists) over at PANTONE. These annual posts, a mix of makeup, clothing and a celebration of all things colorful- has become a bit of a blogging tradition here at ‘Coffee & Chiffon‘ since it’s creation back in 2020, and the announcement near the end of each year gives me a chance to go through my closet and cosmetic collections to see if I have anything that aligns with the shade/shades that are ultimately chosen.

While I had lots of fun wearing 2023’s “Viva Magenta!” selection throughout the seasons last year- from sweaters to swimsuits and jewelry to sandals- the choice for the ‘Color of the Year’ for 2024 made me especially giddy since I own plenty of it! It’s a shade that is universally flattering, fun, and has a very cute name.

This year’s shade is 13-1023 – “Peach Fuzz.”

From Pantone’s website:

PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It’s a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.

In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.

During the most recent snowstorm here in New England, and being somewhat confined to my apartment while I waited for the parking lot and a pathway to my car to be cleared- I decided to embrace the warmth and feminine energy of this shade and wear it in a couple of different ways while working from home, doing laundry, and catching up with Dan before he braved the storm and headed off to work in the afternoon.

This cardigan from Gap is one of my favorite go-to’s in the Springtime, both for the bright and fun peachy color and the softness of the fabric. It looks great over sundresses and more billowy, warm weather tops, or in this case (and current weather conditions!)– over a thermal bodysuit and with some jeans and matching peach slip-on shoes from Keds. I’ve owned at least one pair of slip-on shoes since I was nine, and I don’t plan on stopping now. They’re ideal for doing things around my place and for when I’m running to/from my building’s laundry and mail rooms.

I have no shortage of peach-hued makeup from various brands, as it’s a shade that really glows with my fair complexion and copper hair color. The Milani baked blush in ‘Corallina’ and KYDA’s ‘Warm Peach’ shadow palette are a couple of my favorites since they give me a natural, “lit from within” flush in my cheeks and some brightening highlight around my eyes.

And the creamy, hydrating L’OrΓ©al Paris Colour Riche Lipstick I wear? It’s also called ‘Peach Fuzz!’

This shade is absolutely going to be making multiple appearances in my wardrobe and on my skin throughout this year- especially in the Spring and Summertime- and I can’t wait to share more examples of how I’m incorporating and celebrating this color whenever I can!
