My calendar/planner for the month of January has always been consistently packed year after year with parties, post-holiday dinners and gift exchanges, birthdays, etc., etc.- and 2023 is no exception! I’ve been going non-stop on the weekends in-between working my full-time and part-time jobs, going to the gym, and shoveling my way out of a lot of snow (especially when “light dustings” turn into anything but that!)
A couple of weeks ago was my annual post-Christmas/New Year’s dinner with my Aunt and Uncle in Ludlow, where we got to exchange gifts and enjoy an amazing meal prepared by my Uncle, a chef, who never tells us what we’re having until we get there- but we’re always happy with it! This year was all about comfort food, with braised short ribs, homemade macaroni and cheese, sautéed and seasoned vegetables- and a chocolate lava cake for dessert!
I also got to meet the newest addition to their family- a Shih Tzu puppy named Eddie- and it was love at first sight. He’s so sweet, so playful, and so, so cute!
This past weekend, to kick things off properly- Dan and I headed out to Easthampton, Massachusetts for a couple of drinks at Gigantic (one of my favorite bars I’ve mentioned here in the past!) before they redecorate the space for their upcoming “Escape From New England” tropical/Tiki experience. I had stopped by last year and had a blast- so I’m very much looking forward to it this year, too!
Also- they now play non-stop Elvis tunes in their very Elvis-themed bathroom. It’s wild.
But the main event was my longtime BFF Sean’s belated birthday dinner/party. Rescheduled from last weekend due to Sean coming down with the flu everyone has been getting here in New England (some of you may remember I had caught it right before Christmas a few weeks ago!) Now that he’s feeling better, we gathered at he and our friend Paulo’s apartment in Melrose- which they kept decorated for the occasion!- for pizza, cake, gifts, and to play the 2003 online multi-player sleeper hit, ‘Resident Evil: Outbreak’.
Sean found a way to set up the system where we could all play together- and it was like reliving our teens for a couple of hours. So much fun, and no one got disconnected during gameplay because someone picked up the landline and interrupted the dialup connection!
That totally just dated me, right? I feel so old!
I’m looking forward to another weekend spent with friends and family in a few days since my birthday is this coming Sunday! Here’s hoping I can get some actual sunshine for a few hours for it!
