A Few of My Favorite Things: August 2022

Greetings from my last day here in Nevada, everyone! Before I pack up, grab a coffee and prepare to check in at the airport- I wanted to take some time to share a few of my favorite things from this past August- a month filled with travel, live music, great food and even better company. While I’ll have a full recap of all the highlights from these last few weeks up and running on the blog within the next couple of days after I’ve returned home and readjusted to my own time zone again- this month’s “Favorites” deserve their own post here on ‘Coffee & Chiffon’.

With all-natural products and one not-so-natural souvenir that made me laugh entirely too hard since I’ve been in town and discovered it- this month’s assortment is small but mighty (and memorable!) As always, the things I could photograph will be shared first- followed by movies, music and miscellaneous odds & ends that can’t quite be summed up in just a picture.

So without further delay- here are a few of my favorite things from August 2022!

Back when oral white strips became more accessible to the public and pre-boom in popularity of both professional and at-home UV teeth whitening methods- I had a particularly painful experience with a whitening brand that shall-not-be-named- resulting in inflammation around my mouth and tooth sensitivity that lasted for weeks after I’d stopped using the products. I’ve since incorporated a whitening toothpaste (made for sensitive teeth!) into my daily routine and have been content with the results.

However for this vacation, and knowing I’d be getting my photo taken fairly often- I wanted to dazzle– and these all-natural whitening strips from Lumineux came highly recommended. Made with natural ingredients like coconut oil, sea salt and lemon peel oil- these strips gradually whiten your teeth without causing long-term sensitivity or damage to your enamel. I used these once a day in the days leading up to my departure to the West Coast- and my smile has looked so bright and pretty! Total game-changer- and very affordable!

Oh, Lush- how I love you and my inevitable return to your lovely, clever and effective products every few months when my hair or skin is in dire need of a pick-me-up. You never let me down.

Since arriving in Vegas and it’s 105+ degree August temperatures- my skin has been in a perpetual state of confusion. Dry outdoors and oily amid air conditioned casinos- simply drinking an abundance of water and spritzing with a refreshing toner isn’t going to cut it- and so I turned to an old favorite to give my complexion and senses a much-needed boost.

The Cup O’ Coffee mask is, in my opinion- one of Lush’s best. It smells like coffee shop heaven while simultaneously exfoliating and restoring the balance of my skin so that by the time I rinse it off in the shower- I’m left with a smooth, soft, imperfection-free face and body that’s ready to tackle the next thing planned on my trip itinerary.

And finally- this past weekend saw myself and a friend stop by AREA15 and Meow Wolf’s OMega Mart experience. And while I’ll have a full recap and plenty of photos in the coming days detailing the adventure and immersive puzzle/game, one of the more bizarre “products” advertised in the mart was ‘Tattooed Chicken.’ It made me laugh so much, in fact- that my friend bought me this patch of one so I could sew it onto my denim jacket when I got home.

I’ll probably do it tomorrow morning after I get done packing!

That just about does it for the photogenic favorites from August- but a couple of other things made the list this month, too!

– MUSIC/MOVIES/TELEVISION –

Prey’: I love a good ‘Predator’ sequel (which are sadly far and few-between)– but this prequel to the original movie, released at the very end of July- checks all the boxes of what makes a fun, interesting and edge-of-your-seat action movie. I got super into this one- and highly recommend watching it with the Comanche dub as it was intended. You won’t regret it!

The Killers – ‘boy’: Sure, I’ve seen The Killers live twice this month- and while I have absolutely loved singing along to some of my favorite songs from over many, many years- their newest single, released earlier in August- is the one I’ve found myself looking forward to hearing the most. ‘boy’ is a synth-packed bop of all bops- and is something I know Kelsey would have been playing on repeat the second she heard it for the first time.

And there you have it- my “Favorite Things” for August 2022! Short and sweet and perfect for closing out this Summer as I prepare to transition back into life in New England and the upcoming Fall season where I’m definitely going to have a lot of favorites lined up for/from my favorite season.

But before we get to that- I still need to pack and make my way home!

I’ll see you all soon!
