Belated-Holiday-Everything…

Although Christmas was a few weeks ago and I’m officially back to working my usual full-time schedule (and doing my radio show as normal!)– I feel like the couple of weeks following New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day are some of the busiest and most-traveled days I experience- especially in these ongoing times of COVID-19. With everyone being more cautious, quarantining or- at the worst- testing positive as Omicron runs rampant- so many holiday parties/plans/and get-togethers have been postponed from when they typically take place and have all been rescheduled to this past weekend, this upcoming weekend, etc., etc.

This past weekend saw me having my belated Christmas Eve/Christmas Day dinner with my siblings and mother (since one brother and his family had been feeling under the weather on the actual holiday)– ordering Chinese food and doing our gift exchange. It was a lot of fun, and I’d worried that it wouldn’t feel “festive” given that we are now into January of 2022- but my mom kept the tree up and decorated an extra few days so we’d all have something to sit around.

This coming weekend is a doubleheader- with a highly overdue girls’ dinner and catch-up with one of my longtime friends where I’m excited to finally give her the Christmas present I picked out for her and her husband (and have a glass of wine by a roaring fire.) The next day, and my second-to-last-celebration until my birthday a couple of weeks from now- will see me visiting with my Aunt and Uncle a few towns over for dinner and some football now that the season is winding down.

For that get-together, I’m going to pick up a dozen doughnuts at Adam’s Donuts– which is right down the street from my apartment- to bring with me. I had some this past weekend, and they are always a huge hit!

I know one of my usual New Year’s Resolutions was to get back into more healthy eating/exercising/sleeping habits- but honestly- I don’t start working towards those goals until mid-January at the earliest given the back-to-back gatherings and festivities I have lined up!

I suspect that by next week, things will be a little more “back to normal”- and I’ll have more time to share recipe posts, highlight some local places, talk about my Winter makeup and so on- but for now I’m just enjoying the ride and the food!

Do you and your friends/loved ones have any belated-holiday traditions or ways to celebrate? How do you make it work during the pandemic? Drop me a line and let me know!
