A Weekend Upstate…

Although I tend to stick a little closer to home around the Holiday season- what with Friendsgiving, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc., involving family gatherings and late night parties with friends- I never deprive myself of the opportunity to travel somewhere relatively new, do some exploring, meet new people and both dine in and shop at businesses and establishments I’d never visited before. 2021 has definitely been the year of making up for all the travel opportunities lost in 2020- and it doesn’t seem like I’m slowing down anytime soon!

This past weekend, for example, I headed to Troy, New York with my friend Dan- not only to take some photos but to celebrate his grandfather’s birthday, as well. I’m no stranger to Troy- I’ve driven through the area before in the past- but this marked the first time I’d ever actually walked around downtown and experienced some of the unique attractions the city has to offer.

When I wasn’t marveling at some of the old and historic architecture (a lot of which stays vacant or abandoned- which is pretty much criminal given how much could be done with it to bring in more tourism and stimulate their local economy)– I was grabbing sliders at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, a glass of sparkling rosé at Lucas Confectionary– who have the loveliest storefront- and participating in that aforementioned birthday celebration at Brown’s Brewing Company.

And if you’re not afraid of climbing a steep set of stairs, the top of The Approach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute offers a pretty spectacular view of downtown. Dan I stopped to snap some photos that you can see in my most recent OOTD post.

My own Troy- I’ve mentioned him on this blog so many times!- recently celebrated a birthday as well, and I figured I’d grab him a couple of one-of-a-kind gifts with his namesake while I was in town. I managed to find a unique antique I know he’s going to love at Weathered Wood, which was one of the most unique and beautiful stores I visited during my stay. I also found great trinkets at Artcentric Marketplace.

There were so many places that I didn’t have time to visit during our brief stay, so I’m looking forward to heading back soon- maybe even before the holidays to pick up more gifts and to try out a couple of other restaurants/bars. We’ll just have to see if I can find the time before 2022!
