What do you wear when you have lakeside plans on a partly cloudy New England afternoon in August but need to find a comfortable middle ground between a super low-key swimsuit and a slightly-more-formal sundress? Well, if you’re like me- you keep it cute and casual with a cold shoulder top and a distressed pair of denim shorts.
Such was the plan during a recent outing to the Lake House in Ashfield, Massachusetts. The occasional dark storm clouds that would pass by every so often didn’t have me feeling particularly confident enough in my being able to go for an undisturbed swim or do a little sunbathing in a bikini- but it was also way too hot for a sundress whenever it would brighten up after those aforementioned storm clouds would disappear for a while. This knit top from KAILEIGH and these denim shorts from Just USA (with the most adorable frayed hem!) were a flattering and weather-appropriate compromise.
I looked dressed up without being too formal, and was still able to dip my toes in the water without having to worry about getting rained out and stuck in a soaked bathing suit for the remainder of the day. That was after I temporarily removed these adorable sandals from MIA Shoes, by the way. I made sure not to get those wet.

I’m going to be pairing this top with a white midi skirt for an upcoming girls brunch I have planned before my Texas trip- and that’s one of my favorite things about it- it’s so easy to dress up or down depending on what you wear for bottoms and whatever the occasion may be. I wish I had this one in even more shades to get me through the rest of the season!
