It might not be Spring here in the Pioneer Valley just yet- but I’ve been preparing to and eagerly anticipating visiting some of my favorite local spots that are at their most beautiful when the flowers and trees start blooming. Fortunately for me, one of those spots is an indoor attraction that can control their temperatures year-round- keeping it nice and warm all the time- and perfect for visitors looking to get out of the cold and interact with nature for a little while.
It’s been a long time since I’ve stopped by Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in Deerfield, Massachusetts- but I drive by it frequently and was happy to see it had been able to recently open back up (with limited capacity) in the wake of COVID-19.
First established in 2000, Magic Wings is a family owned and operated business that houses up to 3,500 butterflies of varying species- as well as tortoises, interesting reptiles, birds and flowers. It’s a perpetual Spring/Summertime climate in there- so it was ideal when I returned during one of the windiest/brisk days I can remember earlier this week. Being able to walk around and see so many pretty butterflies up close left me awe-struck.
And of course, I snapped some photos!
I was told that when a butterfly lands on you it’s good luck. Well, five different ones landed on me at random intervals during my stay- so I’m thinking I should play the lottery or something this weekend to test that theory.
If you’re in Deerfield and looking for something fun, unique and affordable to do- either on your own or with your family- Magic Wings is a must-see. Masks are required at all times, and all visitors are subject to temperature checks upon entry- so it’s totally safe right now.
I’d love to bring some of my younger relatives the next time I stop by. I know they’d love it, too!
