OOTD: The Teddy Bear Coat…

For as long as I can remember, wool peacoats have been my default outerwear every Winter. Growing up in Massachusetts, they just seemed to be the most sensible thing to put on- heavy, durable, and able to wear over even the puffiest of sweaters without busting the buttons. I’ve owned them in nearly every color under the sun- and they’ve consistently looked sharp and put-together.

This Winter, however- I wanted to try something a little different. I wanted to wear something softer, less stiff and scratchy than wool- but still toasty enough to keep me warm during the frigid New England temperatures that’ll be hanging around here until March/April.

And so, I turned to the current trends in women’s Fall/Winter-wear- and got myself a Teddy Bear Coat.

It’s exactly what it sounds like- a super soft, super fluffy coat made from the same faux-fur material they use to craft everyone’s favorite childhood companion. I picked mine up during a recent window-shopping-turned-actual-shopping venture at 25 CENTRAL in Northampton- and I have been loving it ever since.

The coat (also a light brown color like a teddy bear!) is surprisingly warm- and easy to dress up or down depending on what you’ve got on under it and what you accessorize with. Example- I’m going to wear this over a little black dress with some *sensational* jewelry for my birthday dinner next week. Weather permitting, of course.

For now, though- I’ve been wearing it over my lighter, less bulky sweaters lately, with skinny jeans and my brown ankle boots- which is what I’m wearing in these photos taken from over this past weekend. Related, but friends I spent the weekend with couldn’t help but keep touching the sleeves on this one and remarking about how soft they were.

So if you need a break from wool, or puffer coats, or anything velvet (which I love but does NOT keep me warm)– I highly recommend the Teddy Bear trend. It’s fun to wear, and looks really, really cute.
