Local Loves: Chubby Dog Coffee Co.

This past week has seen me spending a lot of unexpected time in Putnam, Connecticut. My dear little Oliver, as rambunctious as ever, apparently took a tumble while racing around over the long weekend that resulted in a dental/mouth injury that required a couple of follow-ups and surgical intervention as of yesterday morning over state lines where his primary veterinarian is located. He’s recovering so well – and I’m beyond grateful for the incredibly kind and efficient team that were tasked with taking care of him!

But since I’ve been facilitating so much back-and-forth between visits and follow-ups, I’ve had the opportunity to explore Putnam a little more than I have in previous years, and in doing so I stumbled upon a really great coffee shop in the downtown area that make some very creative lattes and some seriously impressive baked goods – especially their cranberry-orange muffins!

The Chubby Dog Coffee Co., which has locations in both Putnam and Danielson, Connecticut, gets his name from the owner’s own dog, Bella. The shop location in Putnam is so cute, has an extensive drink menu to satisfy any coffee craving, and even has an adjacent gaming room with tabletop and arcade games for people to enjoy together as a group. There’s plenty of street parking in the neighborhood and the shop is within walking distance of quite a few shops and restaurants if you want to take your breakfast to-go for a little stroll and some browsing.

During my most recent visit, I ordered off of their current “Fair Faves” specials menu (I highly recommend the Fried Oreo Latte!) and chatted with some of the locals in the area for a bit. It really is a wonderful place to congregate and kick back.

I’m sure I’ll be visiting the location again the next time Oliver has a follow-up, and I’ll be sure to stock up on the muffins when I do!

Next week, I’m going to be recapping some plans from this weekend, including a possible little adventure up in New Hampshire, and sharing a seasonal dessert recipe that serves as a fun spin on an Autumn classic.

See you all soon!
