“Salt air, and the rust on your door…”

Although I had wanted to start sharing photos and recaps from my recent long weekend away on the Cape as early as this past Monday, by the time I had returned home on Sunday evening and crawled into my own bed with the air conditioning on full blast (the best way to sleep!) – I knew I’d need to do it after recovering from a very busy and very fun few days away, first.

The Summer 2025 “Girls Weekend” kicked off bright and early last Friday when I’d traveled to my friend Stef’s house to pick her up and begin the somewhat long drive out to Dennis, Massachusetts to join the rest of our group (including Lexi, our bulldog mascot!) who had arrived late on Thursday night to get our accommodations and groceries in order. We were generously offered the most adorable beach cottage to stay in via our friend Alyssa’s in-laws, and it was within walking distance of so many great restaurants, attractions, and most importantly – the beach!

Once we’d arrived and had both enjoyed lunch together and gotten settled in our respective bedrooms, we all hopped into Alyssa’s SUV to make our way to Hyannis since we had a scheduled whale watch to attend for a few hours with Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises. I haven’t been on a whale watch since I was a kid and had gone on a class trip, but from what I remember, it hadn’t been very eventful.

Fortunately for me this time around, however – the humpback whales weren’t shy at all! We saw about five total coming up for air and deep diving with their tails, and our captain was very mindful about maneuvering the boat so that both sides could get a good view. I took some great videos from where I had found some space at the top of the boat!

Once we were back on land, we browsed Main Street in Hyannis (including a Jaws-themed gift shop and photo op stop!) and grabbed a great dinner at Colombo’s before we returned to the house for some drinks and late night laughs out on the back porch since the weather was perfect.

While we had one specific thing planned for Saturday evening – the day itself was all about exploring in and around Dennis/Dennis Port. We’d made breakfast and coffee in the morning at the house, but lunch was all about fresh seafood on the back patio of The Seafood Company before we embarked on some browsing, shopping and antiquing at places like Cuffy’s (which I’ll write about a little more later on this week!) Shiver Me Timbers, Cape Cottage and Barnacle Betty’s.

After grabbing some fried seafood at Kream ‘N Kone, it was off to our set plans – catching the most amazing sunset and wading in the still warm water at Mayflower Beach! The sun was so big and red in the sky that photos don’t even do it justice, and if we hadn’t also tried to catch the moon rising across town at the Bay – I could have spent the whole night there!

We closed out the evening with ice cream at Sundae School before it was time for some wine and some sleep in preparation for our last day in town.

On Sunday, after brewing our coffee and packing up our belongings and our cars, we made a final lunch stop at Sesuit Harbor CafΓ© for lobster rolls and lemonade by the water while we watched the boats come in and out. We’d been lucky enough to find a table with plenty of shade – and it made for the perfect bookend to what was a pretty spectacular weekend with some of my favorite girls in the world.

While our next weekend get-together is happening in the Fall, we’ve already started planning our 2026 Summer “Girls Weekend”, with a destination and some activities and attractions being added onto the to-do list! We’re very efficient when we put our minds to it and work together!

Overall, I had such an amazing time – and I would absolutely return to any of the destinations we visited again in a heartbeat! I love the Cape, and would spend every weekend there if I could!
