There are a few movies I love to watch each and every Summer that have been a tradition in my life since I was a little kid. While things like ‘Jaws’ and ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ are definitely on that list, so are classic, feel-good and “coming of age” movies like ‘Stand By Me’ and ‘Now & Then’ – which I particularly love because the scenery and locations in those specific films is iconic: quaint, quiet little towns in a time that has long since passed where everyone knows each other and every building and business has so much charm and character.
A town that makes me feel like I’ve been transported to one of those quiet, quaint little towns in an entirely different decade – and like I’m about to have a Summertime adventure of my own that is worthy of a beloved movie – is Ashfield, Massachusetts.
Now I’ve written about Ashfield plenty of times in the past. I love going to the lake there to swim, or strolling their main street which consists of little more than a library, a hardware store, a soon-to-be-café that is currently under construction – and today’s “Local Loves” feature, which I’d last briefly mentioned all the way back in 2021!
Country Pie Pizza is everything I want out of a local parlor in the middle of nowhere. It’s small, filled with cute, unique furnishings, and has a warm and welcoming staff who never mind fixing up a pie just the way you want it. But it’s their pizza that obviously keeps me coming back whenever I find myself in the area. With a a perfectly crisped crust, delicious sauce and just the right amount of cheese for an insanely fun pull – one of my favorite specialties on their menu to sink my teeth into is their buffalo chicken pizza with a white sauce and bleu cheese. It is the BEST. Hands down.
And just a heads up – Country Pie Pizza is a cash only establishment. There’s indoor seating and a couple of outdoor tables for those wanting to be out in the sunshine and fresh air this time of year, and on Wednesday afternoons you can enjoy your freshly cooked slices while also checking out the weekly Summertime Kids Market that takes place by Ashfield Hardware (which is right next door to Country Pie!)
I’m already planning my next Lake Day within the next couple of weeks, and I’m thinking I’ll be giving their potato pizza a try when I do!
