High Tea and The Titanic…

This coming weekend marks my last here at home before I set off to Italy on a red-eye flight next Tuesday night, and to say I’ll be spending the next 48 hours checking my packing list and itinerary no less than three hundred times, packing, unpacking, and re-packing again, and having panic attacks when I can’t find the passport I set aside five minutes earlier multiple times would be an understatement. I am so beyond excited – but it can be a little stressful since I haven’t left the country since well before the pandemic – and the rules and guidelines of international travel have undoubtedly changed since then.

I digress, the one thing I hadn’t planned on was that I would be flying back to New England the night of Mother’s Day, which means that that any celebrations for my mom that I had planned will have to happen the next day (which I took off from work) or the following weekend when I’m back to my usual schedule.

Not content with those options, I decided to have an early Mother’s Day outing this past weekend, taking my mom to Boston to partake in two of her favorite things – a really good tea party and The R.M.S. Titanic.

Our first stop was The Boston Public Library, where I’d gotten us a reservation for their 10AM high tea in the Courtyard Room. The area where we were seated was nothing short of grand, and while my mom enjoyed her breakfast tea with sugar cubes that were served inside a hollowed out book – I opted for a piping hot kettle filled with matcha while we snacked on decadent sandwiches, scones, and tiny desserts and chatted with some the lovely ladies seated around us.

The service was outstanding, everything tasted absolutely delicious (I need their chicken salad recipe and I need it now) an the scenery – despite it pouring outside – was breathtaking. We could have, and nearly did, spend our whole day wandering the library after we’d finished!

But there was one more place I wanted to take my mom since I knew she’d love it – and we made the short walk over to the Titanic exhibit currently happening at the Saunders Castle. There, we got to gaze at salvaged artifacts from the ship and immerse ourselves into replicas of the Grand Staircase and the state rooms of both first and third class passengers while learning more about what each class at the time had for accommodations.

Everything was so detailed and well-done – although it was, of course, very somber when it came time to face the mass casualties of the event.

Afterwards, we headed back to my mother’s house to beat another rainstorm that was headed right for us – but it was such a great day and she’s still talking about how much she enjoyed it!

Despite my planned departure next week, I’ve got some more posts/content lined up before I take a very brief break from blogging – but you know I’m going to be sharing as much as I can from Italy while I’m there!

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
