Just because retailers are already starting to both transition into and heavily advertise their Fall and Halloween products/displays doesn’t mean that Summer is over, folks. Far from it, in fact! We’ve been right smack in the middle of a heat and humidity wave here in New England that has left me grateful that my apartment has what I can only describe as an industrial-strength air conditioner right now – but it’s also got me making trips to one of my favorite, brightly-colored and retro ice cream shops right here in the Pioneer Valley for a sweet treat to cool off!
Cindy’s Drive-In, located in Granby, Massachusetts, has been in operation since 1995 and has been one of my annual Summertime “must visit” spots since I first moved to The Valley back in 2019. Inspired by 1950s era ice cream parlors, this little roadside establishment with a Vegas-style neon sign serves up hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches and sides – and what I can only describe as a near infinite amount of ice cream flavors and sundaes in both hard scoop and soft serve.
They also have a pretty great layout behind the pick-up windows with ample seating and a park, and they play classic tunes over loudspeakers that sets the whole vibe for any trip. It’s super cute!
It’s made a couple of appearances here on ‘Coffee & Chiffon‘ in the past, but I think it’s about time it got it’s very own post so I can celebrate it properly!
I recently stopped by with Dan after work on one of the more scorching days we’ve had lately so that he could order a cheeseburger and fries and I could grab a Rice Krispie Treat soft serve cone after what felt like an eternity deliberating their menu and flavor selection. And I have to say, it was a really great choice. I could easily eat about three more cones of it.
Cindy’s stays open until the end of October, so if you need to plan a road trip and/or decide on a flavor of ice cream – you’ve got plenty of time! I’m looking forward to heading back within the next couple of weeks before my August really kicks off, and I’ll definitely be dropping by in the Fall, too.
And thank you, Dan Little – for catching me in my moment of French fries and ice cream bliss!
