Trials and Tribulations…

As Troy’s trial reaches the mid-week mark of it’s second week (and will hopefully be wrapping up and reaching a conclusion before this weekend,) to say I’m physically and emotionally drained is an understatement. As someone who has worked in law for well over a decade now, I’m aware of procedures, protocols and what is to be expected when both sides of a contentious disagreement are pleading their cases, but sometimes the underhanded tactics, the snide or passive-aggressive comments, and the attempts to take things in evidence out of context or twist the truth “just enough” that I see longtime lawyers – educated professionals! – do with some startling regularity still catches me off guard and makes my blood boil each and every time.

But all I can do is remain calm and composed, take my notes, and continue to be as supportive as possible when we’re both back home, decompressing, and unpacking the day’s events. As long as I’m eating and sleeping okay- I can tough things out for a little while longer.

And Troy, bless his heart, continues to surprise me and try to cheer me up throughout the process – even when it’s his case and he’s the one in high stress! Despite everything he’s going through and has been for the five years leading up to this point – he still brings me flowers or fancy cookies during the week, or takes me out to dinner.

The other night, when I thought we we were heading to our usual spot in Northampton for a couple of drinks and some spicy chicken alfredo to pass a couple of restless hours, Troy took a sharp left into downtown Deerfield and parked outside of Gianni Fig’s – an Italian restaurant I had mentioned I really wanted to try a couple of times when we’d been in the area together. We got a table after a brief wait and over cocktails, carbonara and plenty of bread (all the carbs!) – we had a really nice night.

It was a night I think both of us needed.

We’re going to attempt to recreate that stress-free magic in Easthampton later on this week, since he announced he’d made a reservation at Galaxy (you bet I’ve written about it!) and I now have a reason to get dressed up in not-just-nice-for-court-attire.

To everyone who has reached out to offer words of support and encouragement so far, we are both so truly grateful. I know I haven’t divulged the details of everything and am awaiting a verdict/outcome to do so in order to prevent speaking out of turn – but I plan on doing so as soon as possible so that everyone can grasp the full story and the magnitude this has had on so many lives over the course of many, many years.

But continued good thoughts and vibes are always welcomed and appreciated!
