This installment of ‘Local Loves’ is going to be a bit different than past posts. While I designate these (usually) New England-based spotlights on various businesses, attractions and oddities that can actively be visited/explored and experienced- this week’s travel/dining guide is serving more as a tribute to a place that I absolutely adore that recently announced they’ll be closing up shop in the coming weeks.
If you’ve read my blog for any length of time or followed me on INSTAGRAM, then you’ve probably seen plenty of photos of my many, many trips to Wells Provisions in Charlemont, Massachusetts- including snaps of their amazing menu selections, creamery and adorable little general store. I was first introduced to the family owned and operated, New Orleans-inspired spot by Dan about two years ago, when he’d brought me for brunch– and it was love at first sight (and bite.) Not only is everything on their menu made from locally-sourced ingredients that are baked/cooked to perfection, but their staff has always been so friendly, fun and welcoming.
I’ve since introduced so many of my friends and family to their location, who have also become repeat customers over these past couple of years- and I can say that it has become one of my favorite places to go when I’m traveling towards places like Lee, Lenox and North Adams.
Sadly, however- the owners (Wesley and Levi, who are absolute gems!) have announced that as of October 9th, Wells Provisions will be switching to catering and pop-up events only. It’s a huge loss for the community given how small and rural Charlemont is- but they’ve explained by way of a social media post that its so they can focus on their family and their children- which is the most important thing and something I think everyone can understand and agree with.
So if you’re in Charlemont before October 9th (and I’m making it a point to visit ASAP) be sure to stop by, say hello to the incredible staff, and grab a bite to eat. It’ll be a meal you’ll remember for a lifetime.
And thank you to Wesley and Levi for feeding me well and letting me take all the photos I wanted over these past couple of years. I’m going to miss you (and Fried Chicken Fridays!)
xo
