I’ve had Florence & The Machine’s ‘Dog Days Are Over’ stuck in my head for most of this past weekend, mainly because it’s still such a terrific song but also because we’ve reached the end of July and are winding down on the “Dog Days of Summer” as well.
While I typically associate July in New England with hot days and humid nights- this past month’s weather has been nothing short of bizarre and, at times, disastrous. We’ve had more days filled with non-stop torrential downpours and storms-including multiple flash floods and tornado warnings- than we’ve had days filled with sunshine and clear skies. Roads have been washed away, roofs and trees have been damaged by high winds- and so many Summertime plans and events have had to been cancelled and/or rescheduled due to safety concerns.
With the forecast for the first few days of August looking to be perfect beach-going weather, the pressure is on to make up for lost time and enjoy the last few weeks of Summer.
But I don’t want to get ahead of myself. As fickle as July was, I still had some fun!
I kicked off the month with a weekend in the Berkshires with my dear friend Dan and his family, which is also the same weekend I discovered an absolute gem of a local event-planning company that gave me an opportunity to have an afternoon where I felt like a fairy princess in the woods. It was around this time (complete with Fourth of July fireworks!) that I had a bit of self-reflection so I could revisit my 2023 Resolutions and map the strides I’ve made in achieving them since the beginning of the year.
I shared my Summer makeup collection earlier this month in-between picking blueberries, taking day trips to Vermont, and finally visiting The Farm Table in Bernardston. And let’s not forget my “Barbenheimer Weekend” where I saw two of the biggest and best movies of 2023 back-to-back after a trip to Rye’s fantastic new pizza spot.
I also had two great collaborations this past month- the first with CorVive and the second with 88 Acres. Those promo/discount codes are still live if anyone wants to order anything!
And as always- I shared plenty of recipes and a couple of my favorite Summertime dresses here and there, too!
Overall, despite the rain and occasionally having to ride out potential tornadoes in various basements- July was productive and progressive- and for that I’m grateful.
And now it’s time to prepare for August. What do I have on the docket? A trip to New York, for starters- but I’m also hoping to get back to the beach, share a few more seasonal spots and have a little more ice cream before it’s time to pack up the coastal dΓ©cor and bikinis and get ready for the Fall once more!
So here’s to the good times and memories that could be found sprinkled throughout July.
And to August being a little brighter and sunnier for all of us!
