If you’ve been reading ‘Coffee & Chiffon’ for any length of time now, then you’re probably aware that I love a good long weekend getaway- especially if it involves some history, some sight-seeing, live music and great food- and this past weekend checked all of those boxes!
A few days ago I hopped a quick red eye flight to Washington, D.C. to meet up with Andrew and the kids. Archer’s third birthday is swiftly approaching a little later on this month- so it seemed like the perfect time to visit and celebrate since I can’t make it down on the actual day of due to my work schedule. We had tickets to see The Killers’ final U.S. arena show of the year- and considering how great the kids did when we brought them to the Vegas show– we figured they were seasoned professionals by now and could handle a late night out on the town (in fairness- they stayed awake much longer this time!)

They had their popcorn, lemonade and headphones. They were all set!
I had opted to stay in nearby Alexandria, utilizing the Metro to get around as needed since a station was within a short walking distance from my hotel. In the days leading up to the show, I had spent some time exploring places like the Smithsonian Natural History Museum and Arlington National Cemetery– both of which I hadn’t visited in years.
The weather was absolutely beautiful for the duration of my trip- so I didn’t mind walking around at all!
I’m hoping to make one more trip to the area before the end of the year- preferably around the holidays- so I can both see the kids for Christmastime and check out the decorations around D.C. I hear it’s lovely during that time of year!
