It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Maine (I think I had gone for a socially distanced and masked beach day in the Summer of 2020- but time is an illusion these days!) so when my longtime friend Sean, who I hadn’t seen in about a month or so asked me if I wanted to take a coastal, one-day road trip this past weekend to get some seafood in my stomach and salty air in my lungs- I jumped at the chance- despite the fact that a lot of popular attractions throughout the state don’t open for another few weeks when the Summer season unofficially kicks off after Memorial Day.
We didn’t have a particular destination in mind- which is always the most fun kind of trip to take because there’s no pressure to be anywhere at any specific time- so we got to see all sorts of beautiful scenery and architecture in places like Wells, Kennebunk (where we spotted the historic “Wedding Cake House!”) and Boothbay Harbor, and grab some great food at Sarah’s Café in Wiscasset and The Met in Freeport.
I also spotted quite a few shops/destinations I’m looking forward to visiting in the on-season- including some harbor tours and boutiques- so I’ll definitely be making my way back up North this Summer. Until then, though- Sean and I enjoyed the calm before the tourism storm, and I snapped quite a few fun photos of the areas and our adventure!

I always forget just how beautiful Maine is year-round!. I really need to visit more often!
