OOTD: Mod Squad

When I made plans to return to Troy, New York to celebrate my friend Dan’s birthday with his family and some of his friends this past weekend- I knew exactly what outfit I wanted to wear since I had been waiting for both the right weather and the perfect occasion to finally show it off. Not too formal, but still a little more fancy than any of my t-shirts I usually toss on when my afternoon is going to consist of pizza and margaritas- this short-sleeved (with ruffled details!), satin blue and white polka dot top was the perfect thing to pair with jeans and some slip-on sneakers.

This top was a purchase I’d made during a recent stop at PLUM in my neighborhood– as part of my ongoing Springtime refresh of my wardrobe- and I absolutely loved the sort of retro, mod design/feel it has. I had originally planned to wear it to work with a navy blue skirt I had or a pair of white shorts I’ve had ready to go for my upcoming trip out West- but it absolutely works with denim and casual footwear, too.

Since I knew I was going to be having a couple of cocktails while I was out- I took it easy on my jewelry (so I wouldn’t lose it during the party!) and instead went bold and equally retro-inspired with my eyeshadow- applying a heavy layer of bright blue on my lids that I raved about in my Spring Makeup Collection post.

And as the party wrapped up and there was a break in the drizzle outside- I took a stroll down nearby Franklin Alley- a small walkway in downtown Troy that features beautiful artwork/murals and overhead lighting. If you couldn’t tell by the photos- I loved it!
