Hitting The Slopes…

In recent years I’ve talked about the ways I treat myself and enjoy my own company on Valentine’s Day- specifically because the guy I’ve been seeing lives on the opposite coast at the moment, which makes traditional ways of celebrating just a tad more difficult. I treat myself to a nice dinner, or go and see a movie, or- weather permitting- I go for a nice hike or a walk somewhere scenic.

Given that we had a pretty significant snowstorm right before Valentine’s Day this past weekend- I opted to commemorate the holiday this year with some fresh air and a lunch-in-the-lodge at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, Massachusetts.

Now, I’m not much of a skier or snowboarder- but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy watching others who are infinitely better at it than I could ever hope to be- and I watched so many talented people (including very brave kids!) take on the slopes with a hot chocolate in hand.

For lunch, I stopped by the Black Diamond Restaurant located within the main lodge- where they had a Super Bowl-inspired menu to choose from. I enjoyed a pretty great sour and a grilled chicken quesadilla while I alternated between watching the roaring fire in the fireplace and the curling they were showing during their big screen Olympics coverage near the bar.

I would have loved to take the lift to the top of the mountain for some panoramic photos, but the place was surprisingly busy and the crowds were much too long this time around- but there’s still a few weeks of Winter left for me to try again!

Overall I had a very laid-back Valentine’s Day. It was a perfect and picturesque way to spend a snowy day in New England- and I would absolutely recommend it!
