As I write this, I’m icing my arm and drinking a lot of water and Gatorade- having received my long awaited COVID-19 booster shot yesterday evening after work. So far, much like my last dosage of the regular Pfizer vaccine- I’m doing okay. I’m taking it easy on myself today, staying hydrated while working from home- and watching the snow fall outside from my office window.
Today’s storm would have been my first of 2022 had I not returned from a long weekend in Maryland this past Wednesday night. Shortly after my arrival there on Sunday afternoon, where I’d flown in to baby-sit Kelsey’s children since the scheduled guest/sitter had fallen ill right before New Year’s and couldn’t make it- we got absolutely pummeled by a Winter storm that left well over a foot of snow on the ground and a lot of ice on every roadway.
I’ve seen a lot of crazy blizzards and Nor’easters in my life, but the storm in Maryland was on another level- with cars being abandoned on the roadside, 18-wheelers spinning out of control, and so many streets just blocked because there was too much snow to get through them safely- and it happened FAST. I’ll never take New England’s pre-treated roads for granted ever again.
But Andrew and the kids and I made the best of it- with plenty of playtime, hot chocolate and re-watches of ‘Frozen’ and ‘Frozen II’ (their favorite movies, and appropriate given the weather) when we weren’t working or the kids weren’t at school after the storm had passed.
It was fun being back so soon after my last visit around Christmas (the airport still had their Christmas trees up in the terminals)– and as busy as the next few weeks are shaping up to be- I’m looking forward to planning my next trip back.
Just as long as it doesn’t snow again while I’m there! I’m good with that.
