Ever since I launched “Coffee & Chiffon” back in January (and it’s been a wild and unexpected journey ever since!) I’ve been posting consistently three times a week- Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays- during the good times, bad times and especially during the ongoing pandemic where generating content has been admittedly tricky but manageable during stay-at-home orders and quarantine.
Tomorrow morning, however- I’m going to be heading across the country for a week for a long overdue visit with my best friend Kelsey’s family- including her husband and two small children. Some of you may remember that Kelsey passed away back in February, right before COVID-19 restrictions and mass closures went into effect. We were unable to have a funeral for her as a result- given large gatherings were banned and air travel had been significantly reduced.
Her memorial service, now planned for October to coincide with what would have been her birthday- is still happening for the time being- however things change daily. Given that there’s speculation another wave of coronavirus would more than likely kick off in the Fall with schools reopening and flu season right around the corner again- there was concern the service may be postponed/delayed for a second time. If that happens, I may not be able to reunite with our loved ones until 2021.
After careful planning with Kelsey’s husband- we decided that now was as good time as any for me to visit for a few days. I’ve been isolating during these past couple of weeks, I’ve got a mask and face shield ready to go- and gloves and hand sanitizer packed away in my purse, carry on and regular suitcase. I’ve been taking my temperature on a daily basis and have shown no symptoms typically associated with COVID- so I think I’m good to go.
While I’m there, I want to dedicate all of my time to Kelsey’s family and to staying vigilant in protecting them and myself by following recommended guidelines and protocols. As a result, I’ve decided to take the week off from updating “Coffee & Chiffon” and intend to resume my normal posting schedule on Monday, August 17th.
I’ll have plenty of stories/photos from my trip to share when I get back and head into a mandatory 14-day isolation, of course- and you can always peep my adventure over at MY INSTAGRAM. I’ll have access to my e-mail, however I can’t guarantee a super timely response- but I’ll do my best!
I’m excited and nervous, which is to be expected- but I look forward to sharing each leg of my trip once I’m back home and able to write again.
I’ll see you all in a week. Until then, stay safe and take care of each other!
