I have a little bit of a confession – one I can’t believe I’m owning up to since I have been called a “Halloween Queen” and a “Pumpkin Spice Latte Princess” for years now, but here it is: Summer is gaining so much momentum as my favorite season here in New England. I know. I can’t believe it either.
Yes, the humidity makes everything wet and sticky and destroys my hair two seconds after I step out of the door. Yes, it sometimes gets so hot out that it hurts to breathe in and no amount of air conditioning can bring relief. Yes, it’s the season where spiders and mosquitos take over every window screen, every door frame, or every unchecked corner. And yes, every beach and every local eatery or ice cream stand becomes so flooded with people that you sometimes have to wait hours to find parking or a seat because it’s peak vacation time…
… But the sunsets? The hydrangeas? The not-too-cold chill first thing in the mornings and the occasional breezy nights? Drive-in movie theaters? Late night waffle cones? Fresh seafood and swimming in the ocean once you’re able to get close enough to it? Waking up to and/or falling asleep to thunderstorms? Strolling charming coastal towns with your friends and loved ones? It’s those little things – and more! – that make all the aggravation worth it. There’s a reason so many movies and television shows feature a New England Summer as the backdrop for whatever story they’re telling. There’s something purely magical about it.
And as much as I love a cozy sweater and some boots, I also can’t deny that the sheer ease and comfort in throwing on shorts and a tee-shirt or tank top before a day/night out is also unmatched. I did something similar the other night when I went out for cocktails, appetizers, and a sunset sundae after getting home from work when I grabbed my navy blue lace shorts and this fitted lobster tank top (a Target find!) and headed out for a few hours.

I have plenty of dresses and seasonal shirts and slacks that I wear to work or dressier gatherings this time of year, but I love this ensemble because it’s so similar to outfits I wore when I was a kid and was going out for soft serve or fried seafood with my family during my Summer vacations from school. It’s super simple, but it still has a cute print/logo on it, and it’s ridiculously comfy!
A little later on this week, I’m going to be winding down the month of July with a look at some of my ‘Favorite Things’ before I share some of the highlights from the last few days/weeks just as we’re getting ready to kick off August. I’ve got so much stuff coming up soon and I’m so excited to share it!
