Dare I say it out loud – but I think Spring is here to stay, everyone – at least for a little while! With thunderstorms shaking my walls pretty much every night this week and my finally turning my air conditioning on (just for just an hour or so!) for the first time this year when temperatures started soaring rapidly and unexpectedly, I’m going to be so disheartened if we get yet another round of snow flurries like we did as recently as last week.
But with the season upon us, it also means I get to participate in one of my favorite “Spring Cleaning” traditions and finish the process of rotating out my wardrobe. While I’ve been holding onto a few sweaters and jackets in case the aforementioned snow flurry happens again, I think I can safely put them in storage for now until we hit mid-Fall and the days and nights get significantly chillier again.
What makes the process fun, though – other than the amount of room I create when the bigger, bulkier sweaters and snow pants get packed away – is that my closet goes from being a haven for everything neutral-toned and color coordinated to literally bursting with bright shades, prints and patterns. It’s quite a transformation that brings a smile to my face each and every year when I finish all the moving and shuffling around that goes into it.
The first piece to make it into my wardrobe this year is this pink plaid cotton dress via A New Day, with a button down feature and a cute little bow at the front. I call this my “Picnic Barbie” dress, and recently had the opportunity to wear it out during a particularly beautiful afternoon/evening grabbing dinner and drinks in Northampton.

This dress is so comfortable and so lightweight (but not see through!) and can be dressed up or down quite easily. I wore my tan heels this time around, which admittedly made a stop in the park a tad more difficult because of the grass – but a simple pair of white sneakers or sandals would look great, too!
And of course it has pockets, although they give the dress kind of a weird silhouette at times. I still love it, though. Also? A big shout-out to my Danessa Myricks eyeshadow, which was one of the stars of the night!
Next week, I’ll be back with another “Local Loves” installment, a recap of this upcoming weekend, and maybe another recipe before we start winding down the month. We’ll just have to see!
