Earlier this week, I had talked about how I’d spent my Fourth of July holiday in Rye, New Hampshire while simultaneously sharing one of the best places to grab an overstuffed lobster roll (like a true Patriot!) – but I’d also mentioned that a few other locations had been considered before my mom and I ultimately decided on spending the holiday together up in The Granite State with my dog and BFF, Oliver – and those other locations were reserved for the rest of the long weekend.
On Saturday, for example, we’d once again hit the road – this time to Western Massachusetts and, specifically, Great Barrington – to grab lunch at one of my favorite spots for the best burger around (and so my mom could try it for the first time!), The Bistro Box! I’ve definitely talked about their extensive and impressive menu here on the blog in the past, and I was extra excited for my mom to finally see it for herself.
And one of the things I truly appreciate about Bistro Box is that they have a dog-friendly menu, like unseasoned hamburger patties, hot dogs and dairy-free ice cream so furry friends can have a delicious snack, too. While I went to town on their Box Burger (which has the most incredible tomato bacon jam on it!) – Oliver got to have a burger of his own – and he was living for it!
On Sunday, I was solo this time around as I headed to the lovely Mystic, Connecticut where I popped by Becca Rose Apothecary within Olde Mistick Village to replenish some of their goat milk soap bars that I use all of the time and had recently run out of, grab a lemonade and mozzarella “shark fins” from the nearby Boardwalk CafΓ© & Gift Shop – and do some window shopping for some coastal apparel and decor for both myself and my girlfriends for an upcoming weekend on the Cape we have planned in a few weeks.
But the true gem of the day was when I stopped by MINE in Mystic over on Washington Street to take a look around after it was recommended to me by a friend in the area. This antique shop also doubles as an art gallery – and some of the pieces for sale were absolutely incredible. I was personally obsessed with the sculptures that looked like grizzled sailors and captains, and others that were carved out to be very detailed and ornate fish.
I’m very much planning on going back soon to pick out a couple of pieces for my apartment. They were so cool!
Overall, it was such a great, sunny and busy long weekend – and I’m very much looking forward to the next one!
