There’s been an ongoing joke in New England, which is being used to mask an underlying frustration (as most of our jokes do) about the status of our weekend weather since March. Based on the upcoming forecast – this coming Saturday will mark 13 weeks in a row where it’s rained across the region, be it steady sprinkles or torrential downpours, throughout the weekend. Monday through Friday, however – when most people are at work, or school, or are otherwise preoccupied and unable to enjoy the outdoors or outdoor plans as much as they want? It’s consistently gorgeous out.
The second 5-o-clock rolls around on a Friday? Grab your umbrella!
In the Spring it wasn’t so bad, and I don’t think it affected our collective mood as much because it was still cold out and no one was really spending any great deal of time outside unless they were actively engaging in outdoor activities or sports – but now that Summer is upon us and the temperatures have been soaring? We want our weekends! We earned them!
I get a half day at my full-time job once a week (today is one, for example!), so I’ve been able to go out and enjoy the nicer days a lot more, and I’m very grateful for that – but it’d be nice to have a full coastal weekend where I could stay outdoors and read a book, sit outside and enjoy a coffee, or watch the waves crash in without getting soaked to the bone.
I digress. I’ve been enjoying some indoor activities on the less sunny days since it is June, after all. I recently went to a screening of ‘DOGMA’ for it’s 25th Anniversary (it’s one of my favorite movies and Kevin Smith’s best work!) and have plans to visit an ice cream museum within the next few days, which will be one of the most Summer-esque things I can do indoors on a rainy day.

And although I’ve had to postpone and reschedule those aforementioned coastal weekends a couple of times now due to inclement weather, that doesn’t mean they aren’t still being fine-tuned and properly re-planned. I’m excited to finally be able to share some photos from those trips when they happen!
A little later on this week, I’m going to have a tropical beverage recipe I saw floating around on social media that looked so pretty and tastes delightful (and can also be served as a mocktail!) since it’s been a while since I’ve shared a proper drink how-to on here!
Until then – fingers crossed that this is the last weekend we have with storms predicted for a while!
