Although Monday was apparently National Cocktail Day, and I was debating writing about one of the many fine and fun establishments around the Pioneer Valley where I can stop to get a great drink with dinner or a refreshing hard cider just because – your girl loves her coffee more than anything (it’s in the title of the blog, in case anyone hasn’t noticed!) – and I thought it was finally time to talk about what has become one of my favorite places over the last couple of years to visit for an afternoon, post-office and pre-gym/workout pick-me-up or a little treat.
I was first introduced to Familiars in Northampton, Massachusetts back in March of 2023 while Troy was visiting me for a few days. Knowing my appreciation for small businesses and unique locations, he also knew this quality coffee & tea shop would quickly become one of my immediate go-to’s when I needed a caffeine fix – and he was right!
Nestled on Strong Avenue, just feet away from the famed Tunnel Bar (there’s the National Cocktail Day tie-in!) this café and eatery, located inside a remodeled and converted lunch car diner – has a lot more square footage on the inside than what it’s humble exterior would lead you to believe. With a rotating, seasonal food and beverage menu, a spacious bar area with the most adorable décor, and plenty of seating in both a beautifully lit dining room and in a designated and cozy outdoor nook – I love coming here for light bites, lattes and matcha before I hit the gym.
Everything is always made to perfection from locally sourced ingredients, and the staff have always been lovely each and every time I’ve dropped in. It’s also perfect for very cool photos, as evidenced above!
I’ve been trying to taste everything on their current Spring menu, and am currently obsessed with their peach mochi matcha (with oat milk!) and tomato jam & egg sandwich. I highly recommend!
