I love to celebrate my friends at any and every opportunity that presents itself. Finding the perfect presents to give, attending parties that commemorate milestones, participating in events/things that they love and that interest them, etc. It’s one of the best things ever and something I look forward to with every holiday, birthday, get-together, or surprise event that pops up each year.
This past weekend, for example, I celebrated my longtime friendship (over twenty years!) with my podcast co-host, Stef, when I took her to Coolidge Corner Theater to see a double “Cult Classic” featurette hosted by Joe Bob Briggs, who we’re both big fans of as two horror enthusiasts who grew up with late night b-movie showcases like ‘Mystery Science Theater 3K’, ‘Tales From The Crypt,’ and ‘Elvira’s Movie Macabre’.
Joe Bob and Darcy The Mail Girl, his co-host – are certified horror movie experts – and their show, ‘The Last Drive-In” has a lot of really interesting behind-the-scenes facts, trivia and special guests from the movies they present. It’s also something they take on the road from time to time, which is what brought them to The Coolidge!
Stef and I watched back-to-back screenings of ‘Bubba Ho-Tep’ and ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll High School’ while Joe Bob gave us some fun facts and answered a Q&A before we went out to the lobby to say hello, grab a couple of really cool t-shirts that were available and have some stuff signed for our podcast studio while snapping a few photos. Everyone was super cool, very chill and friendly – and I know it made Stef’s weekend – which of course made me very happy!
And then yesterday, after finishing work and heading back to the Pioneer Valley from my office, I met up with Dan and his family to celebrate “Saint Danny’s Day.” The lore behind this most fun and silly of holidays is that when Dan was little, he thought that Saint Patrick’s Day was actually named after his older brother, Patrick, and wanted to know if and when he’d have a holiday of his own.
And so the day after Saint Patrick’s Day was therefore dubbed Saint Danny’s Day – where we wear red, listen to tropical music and indulge in tropical drinks. I’ve been lucky enough to be included in the festivities over these last few years since Dan and I met, and it’s always such a great time. His family is so sweet and I love getting to spend time with them.
We kicked off the festivities with dinner at Fitzwilly’s in Northampton before making our way over to Gigantic in Easthampton for a couple of beverages as the bar winds down it’s annual “Escape The Northeast” event until next year. I’m going to miss the décor! They really did such a beautiful job this time around!
And now it’s back to work for me bright and early today before I begin some much-needed Spring cleaning a little later on this week in preparation for warmer weather and more time spent outdoors!
See you all again on Friday!
