Local Loves: Saltitude Himalayan Salt Cave

When a co-worker recently mentioned participating in a relaxing meditation session within a Himalayan Salt Cave in Rhode Island, I was naturally and obviously intrigued. My only knowledge of Himalayan Salt came from a lamp that was gifted to me as a housewarming present when I’d first moved into my apartment back in 2019, and enjoying it on a Wagyu steak in California last Fall. Other than admiring it’s beautiful color and texture, I was entirely unfamiliar with it’s reported healing properties, as well.

My co-worker referred me to Saltitude in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Although the location is tucked away within a shopping plaza, I was advised that what I found beyond the unexpected exterior would be well worth it – and she was right!

Saltitude is a family-owned and operated business and provides a peaceful, clean, and cozy atmosphere for those who are both new to Halotherapy and those who are well-seasoned in it (no pun intended.) The owners wasted no time in getting me acclimated and comfortable, providing me with a safe space to store my shoes and belongings, and answering any and all of my questions before my 45-minute solo session began within the man-made cave.

I was provided with a soft, fluffy, and freshly-washed blanket and my choice of a zero-gravity chair to get situated in before I was left to sit back, relax, and breathe in and out to a guided meditation and calming music. As I began inhaling and exhaling deeply as instructed, the salt ever so quietly and subtly filled the room. While I couldn’t feel it on my skin, I could occasionally taste it (which wasn’t a bad thing!)

The whole experience was so relaxing, and the ambience in the cave was so peaceful and pretty that I eventually fell asleep in my chair – only coming to when the guided meditation very gently woke me up. From there, I was greeted by the staff again and allowed to take my time in getting refreshed and ready to leave my session. I was offered water and tea before it was time to head back into the real world, the frigid outdoors, and home again – but I felt oh-so-relaxed while I did!

Saltitude also offers yoga classes within the cave, massages, sound therapy, and a whole bunch of other unique and personalized services for visitors and their needs. The staff is so unbelievably friendly and welcoming, and I will absolutely be heading back soon! I’m still so mellow and Zen as I write this!

See you all next week!
