Not-So-Local-Loves: Antique Alley Mall

As I gradually transition back into my life and schedule here on the East Coast (only touching down in Boston following a red eye flight from Nevada just a couple of hours ago!) I thought I’d share another installment of “Not-So-Local-Loves” and write about one of my absolute favorite antique stores to visit whenever I’m hanging out in the Arts District of Downtown Vegas.

Antique Alley Mall on South Main Street is one of those “must visit” spots I try to stop by whenever I’m in the area (right up there with my cherished Peppermill!) because not only is it a great place to beat the heat during the Summer – but it’s so easy to get lost in the endless aisles and vendor spaces that are filled with one-of-a-kind art pieces, clothing, and relics from former casinos and businesses in and around the Vegas strip that have long since been closed or demolished.

They also have a great section of vintage showgirl costumes and jewelry that I always find myself gravitating towards. I can’t help myself – I just love shiny and sparkly things!

Troy and I popped in over the weekend as I was winding down the last hours of my mini-vacation so I could take a look around and see what was new since our last visit during the 113°F days of August – and I was delighted at some of the finds I managed to scoop up for a reasonable price – including original postcards from Vegas’ early days as the Strip was being developed, playing cards from the Silver Slipper Casino (owned by Howard Hughes and demolished in 1988!) and a couple of pins by the incredible Holly at Battle Born Pins – who is one of my favorite local artists/vendors. I always try to grab some of her collectibles and stickers whenever I’m in town.

The staff at Antique Alley Mall are all so kind and fun, and always willing to share some local history and lore whether you’re a tourist or a resident – and I’m so excited to see what I find the next time I visit – which will hopefully be soon!
