Surf Rock Sunshine…

With my half days at work rotating with a new quarter and now falling on every Wednesday for the next couple of months, it seemed fitting to celebrate my mid-week freedom with a trip up to Rye, New Hampshire after I wrapped up e-mails and phone calls promptly at noon and closed my laptop for the day. Dan was kind enough to accompany me for an afternoon of tacos and tropical drinks at Kooks, who have now transitioned into their full Summer menu since Troy and I had last visited on Memorial Day.

One of the great things about cutting out of work early in the middle of the week during the Summer is that a lot of places aren’t busy at all – and although Kooks filled up very quickly a couple of hours after our arrival – Dan and I were able to take some great photos while it was quiet of their new outdoor mural, their updated décor, and their new rack of merchandise, including Hawaiian shirts!

And this was all while grabbing some street corn chicken tacos (my favorite!), a couple of cocktails – and even testing out the new mocktail menu for good measure – before we hit the beach to catch the sunset and watch the sky turn the most gorgeous shades of blue and pink over high tide before an intense thunderstorm rolled in just as we were preparing to head back home to Western Massachusetts.

On Thursday, after working my usual full-day schedule, I once again joined Dan – and his parents! – for dinner at Gombo as part of a belated celebration of his mom and dad’s anniversary. Some of you may remember when I wrote about Gombo back in April, and both Dan and myself were excited for his folks to visit/try it for the first time. Between drinks, entrées and dessert – and the great service (as always!) – I’d say it was a hit!

This time around, I had the red beans, rice and sausage – and ended with the bread pudding for something sweet. It was all so, so good.

A little later on this week, I’m going to be sharing another New Hampshire-based road trip destination I visited during this past weekend, as well a new wardrobe addition that I’m particularly fond of this time of year!

But until then – here’s to an easy work-week ahead! Bring on the weekend again!
