And I’m back! I hope everyone who celebrated last week’s Fourth of July holiday and post-holiday weekend enjoyed yourselves! While I had to work bright and early (from home!) on Friday morning, it was thankfully quiet for most of the day and I was able to get a ton of stuff done in preparation for a couple of days off I have set aside this week for the last of the dental procedures/minor surgeries I’m having performed for the Summer. I’m so relieved to be approaching the other side of that journey so that I can kick back and enjoy the rest of July!
My Fourth of July was lovely, spent on a lake in Leicester, Massachusetts with Troy in the company of his family, including all of his brothers, nieces and nephews. Although the weather was a little unpredictable at first – with light rainstorms and some wind throughout parts of the day – it thankfully cleared up in time for us to enjoy some food, highly competitive card games, a bonfire – and finally a spectacular fireworks display from off of the dock after the sun had set. The kids at the party loved it, and I had such a wonderful time with everyone!
Troy headed up to Vermont this past weekend for a brief camping trip with friends, giving me an opportunity to get some long overdue errands done before his return later on today (and before he flies back to California tomorrow until I join him for a little while at the end of August!) Those errands included restocking my apartment, catching up on laundry and e-mails, and cleaning out my car.
And although that doesn’t sound like an ideal Summer weekend for many people, it’s less things I have to worry about while I’m recovering after getting my wisdom tooth pulled in a couple of days!
I put some time aside to have some fun, of course. While getting my heart pumping during a late morning walk in Historic Deerfield yesterday, I spotted an advertisement for a Barbie Doll fashion exhibit at the Memorial Hall Museum (which I haven’t been to since I was a little kid!)
The museum is completely free and contains three floors filled with relics from both Deerfield and New England’s founding and history. This includes furniture, clothing, tools, quilts, and remnants from the 1704 Raid on Deerfield – like a door that survived an attempted break-in via hatchet during the raid.
The Barbie Exhibit, located on the second floor, included an entire wall filled to the brim with various dolls dressed by the likes of Bob Mackie, Armani, and Oscar de la Renta. It was such an unexpected and colorful surprise in the midst of room upon room filled with Colonial history – but it made my Sunday!
A little later on this week, I’m going to be sharing a Summertime side dish recipe I also whipped up this past weekend (to positive reviews!) and another “Local Loves” that I’m especially fond of this time of year.
See you all soon!
