Trees and Top Hats…

It seems almost unjust to have to return to work so soon after wrapping up such a fun and busy weekend but alas, here I am, preparing to start another Monday morning (albeit from the comforts of my cozy living room/office set-up!) of phone calls, e-mails and meetings. Is it possible to rewind the clock just a little bit and return to Friday afternoon?

After wrapping up work at my office on Friday, I headed out to Boston for an evening (and the following Saturday) with my friends Sean and Paulo. Paulo and I are very similar in our love of the holidays, so when I first entered their apartment I was greeted with a freshly cooked dinner, all of their Christmas décor out on full display, and holiday music playing. It was magic!

On Saturday, after Paulo outdid himself again with an incredible breakfast- Sean and I braved the fog and the crowds to head back to “Snowport” so I could pick up a gift I’d ordered from one of the vendors there. Unlike its first weekend, the line for entry wrapped around multiple blocks and there was a considerable amount of new stuff to look at- like their lighted tree and holiday displays. I managed to get the present and get out with relative ease, which made my drive back to my apartment later on that night much more simple since I wasn’t running super behind on time!

Yesterday I was up bright and early (“bright” may not be the correct word to use since it was pouring out all day) to head to Troy, New York with Dan to meet up with his parents and check out their annual “Victorian Stroll” for the holidays. Sunday marked the event’s 40th anniversary and despite the weather, it was absolutely wonderful! Everyone- including Dan’s dad- were dressed up in their fanciest Victorian Era-fashion and we went from store to store to look at window displays, listen to carolers and street performers, grab snacks from local vendors (and lunch from The Whistling Kettle) and then headed on over to Footsy Magoos to look at their over-the-top holiday display and grab a caramel apple sangria.

Downtown Troy is so lovely and charming this time of year. There is so much to do and see- and so many great small-owned businesses I love to show my support for!

And although the rain hadn’t let up by the time we returned to the Pioneer Valley last night- we were still in good spirits. What a wonderful weekend!

A little later on this week we’re taking a peek into my closet for the holiday season and I’m preparing a festive dessert recipe to help you with any upcoming company parties or get togethers you have lined up this month!

’til then!
