When my friend and podcast co-host, Stef, told me that her husband was going away for his annual fishing trip with his dad this past weekend, I had suggested we make it a “Girls Weekend” in their absence- even if it meant just having a couple glasses of wine and cooking something together on Saturday evening. Fresh off of the ‘Barbie’ train, I’ve been wanting to do more activities and get-togethers with my girlfriends since we’re all living such busy and distinctly unique lifestyles right now.
Stef was two steps ahead of me, though (she always is!)– and invited me to her mother-in-law’s cabin in the woods in Hubbardston, Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon for a true “Ladies Only” day with drinks, food, and swimming with a bunch of our mutual girlfriends who took the day off from their respective responsibilities to come hang out for a few hours.
And it was so much fun! The cabin was gorgeous and legitimately miles from civilization- which meant we could be as rowdy as we wanted without worrying about disturbing any neighbors. We had great pizza, plenty of alcohol, a huge and refreshingly cool swimming pool to splash around in, a pool table where we got a little too competitive near the end of the day- and miniature goats. Yes, you read that right. Stef’s mother-in-law has miniature goats!
It was great seeing everyone, including a few new faces that stopped by whom I hadn’t met before! We’ve all been so busy with our careers, and/or some of our friends have young kids and family priorities that require their undivided attention- so I was thrilled that the stars aligned and everyone was able to make it!
And with Fall not too far away, I think we may try to do another “Ladies Only” day with a bunch of Autumnal activities!
On Sunday, after recovering from all the sunshine and Smirnoff shots- I spent the day tidying up my apartment and doting on Oliver as I always do. Troy is coming from California to stay for a few days next week, and I wanted to make sure everything looked nice and neat for when he arrives!
All that’s left to do is restock my fridge and vacuum all of the sand out of my car- but that’s more of a “this weekend” project!
