Local Loves: The Farm Table

When I first moved to the Pioneer Valley just over four years ago (!!!) one of the things I had been most excited for, other than paying way less in rent per month and being closer to friends- was diving into and discovering a brand new community and finding new places to spend some time. Since then, I’ve shared many of those locations (even during the pandemic!) here on the blog and social media- but there has always been one that I just couldn’t get to because it had been closed for nearly as long as I’ve been living here.

Until now, anyway!

The Farm Table in Bernardston, Massachusetts- directly across from Kringle Candle (which I’ve written about before!) like many places- closed its doors at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike many other restaurants and eateries, however- they did not offer a take-out option and the beautiful building sat empty and unused for over three years. I had never had the opportunity to dine there before their closure, but everyone I know who had raved about their menu and décor- so I always felt like I’d missed out!

And although their social media continuously hinted that they’d be coming back by the end of an upcoming month or season- it never happened. I’d all but given up until my friend (and fantastic photographer!) Dan told me that they were finally opening up under new management and that we had to go. I’ll admit, it took some convincing because I thought for sure he was mistaken- but when it was confirmed that it was really happening- we all but dove into his car for the 15 minute drive.

And I have to say it was absolutely worth the wait! The indoor and outdoor décor of The Farm Table is beautiful year-round, with wine bottle chandeliers, fire pits and string lights- which explains why it is also a popular event space for receptions, parties, etc.- but it was the food and the customer service that really stole the show.

Dan and I went all out, splitting cocktails (I had a watermelon and gin spritz!) truffle fries, entrees and multiple desserts like olive oil cake and gelato. Everything tasted absolutely amazing and our waitress was so friendly and eager to offer up recommendations/suggestions about the best things on the menu, including some of her own favorites.

And our bill at the end of the night wasn’t devastating- which is always a plus!

It’s been about a week since we went and we’re already finding reasons to go back sooner than later!

So if you find yourself in Bernardston, don’t make the same mistake I did before the pandemic and wait too long to visit- grab something to eat here as soon as you can! You won’t regret it!
