OOTD: Caped Crusader

One of the more trivial, less Earth-shattering things the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has made difficult in my life (when compared to everything else, of course) is my access to professional equipment and the ability to work with extraordinarily talented photographers and artists in my area this year. I would say that 95% of the content I’ve produced for “Coffee & Chiffon” in 2020 has been done with my phone and on my own- since I had to adhere to social distancing protocols and mandates around New England.

There are some posts and photos that I’m more proud of and pleased with than others- although I really do give each post and picture my all. So when I had the opportunity to work with my neighbor Dan, who is a brilliant photojournalist for my town’s local paper- I jumped at the chance and he was able to help me highlight some of my favorite holiday outfits to wear this time of year over the course of an afternoon- and I’m excited to share them throughout the next few weeks!

Starting off simple- you can’t go wrong with a little black dress for the holidays. It’s classic, timeless and easy to dress up or down depending on the occasion. This short-sleeved jersey dress has been one of my favorites for years because I can literally wear it year-round. It’s lightweight and soft, but it’s greatest feature is how loose-fitting it is- because it’s always comfortable and flattering.

But, for this time of year- I love to dress this one up with a cape or a shawl. This wool cape (which also has subtle short sleeves just in case I get tired of wearing it fastened around my neck) is one of my fancier ones. It’s great for company parties, family gatherings, nights out Christmas shopping or just grabbing some hot chocolate when it gets chilly. If the occasion is especially fancy- I throw on some jewelry to sparkle and shine.

Granted, it doesn’t look like we’re going to be able to do many of those classic holiday things anytime soon this season- but just putting it on had me feeling a little more festive! I think I’m almost ready to set up the tree in my apartment.

And of course, my favorite Autumnal hat made an appearance- although I’ll be swapping it out for a knit cap anytime now with the temperatures starting to drop more and more each day.
