Although I’m not in any hurry for the Summer to be over anytime soon- one of my favorite end-of-the-season activities is heading up to Hampton Beach in September for their annual Seafood Festival-not only because I love a buttery lobster roll or a fresh crab cake as much as the next person- but because all of the beachfront stores have insanely good sales where their merchandise (that they’re desperately trying to get rid of before they shutter for the Fall/Winter) is up to 75% off- sometimes even more!
I’ve found fantastic additions to my wardrobe every year- from sweaters, dresses, shoes, bags and jewelry- for a fraction of what I’d pay if I were to purchase them during the peak-Summer months.
With COVID-19 still raging on, this year’s festival has unfortunately been cancelled- but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy past finds/bargains from over the years that I’m still actively wearing through the current New England heatwave.
Nothing says “casual day running errands in the Summer” like a lightweight, flowing midi skirt and some comfortable sandals or flip flops. This bright blue one- with what looks like peacock feathers embroidered all around it- is one of my favorites. This skirt is easy to match with pretty much anything given the amount of color in it. I often wear it with a white crop top or a bright orange bralette- but for a weekend spent in a more “conservative” setting (see: small town, Connecticut)– I opted for a navy blue tank top, instead.
If memory serves me correctly, I think I had paid $11 for this skirt during the Seafood Festival a couple of years ago (and it was originally priced at around $34 dollars during the height of tourism season) and it’s still just as bright, vibrant and well-stitched as when I first laid eyes on it. I love pieces that are durable and that I can wear again and again- year after year!
And it’s so light and breathable that I’m nothing but comfortable in it- even when the temperatures are soaring and the sun is blazing.
I hope that when the Seafood Festival returns in 2021- I’ll be able to find more skirts like this one. It’d be nice to have a couple different colors to add to my collection!
